Hi, it's Jan from the Netherlands, arrived here to check out this ultimate turbo-knowledge forum. I own a 1990 1.6 MX5, had it for almost two years. Been busy to get it ready for boost (brake-upgrade, suspension upgrade etc) and currently in the process of rust-repair (rear left sill.. and a few minor other spots) and rollbar/framerail installation.
It's about time to think about parts for FI so that's why I am here :)

Looks more like the valley of bricks ti me!

Nice looking car and welcome to the site.

Hello and welcome!

I am somewhat confused by the combination of Dutch and mountains: we do not have mountains.
Limburg might have some elevation, but nothing serious enough to deserve the name mountains. I also think some people might not even consider Limburg as a part of the Netherlands :giggle:

As for the car: it looks nice and clean! You have already spent quite a bit on serious brakes, what is your goal for the car?
If you have serious plans (>225 hp) I would start with swapping a 1.8 in there first :)

I beleive it was a reference to this wonderful song by the Nits.

Welcome Jan.

Where in the Netherlands do you live? You seem like a serious guy, I suggest you start with swapping to 1.8 first. Highly recommended NB, to get rid of the HLA's ( and besides that a much better flowing head)

That's the way I did it. Swapping to a 99/00 1.8 engine in my '90 chassis and then put a td04 on it. And three fellow Dutch men with me have chosen this route.

Well maybe I'll consider it when an 1.8 donorcar shows up (need an Torsen diff too, maybe 6-speed?). It's always possible to make the swap later. I live in Harderwijk.

I can deliver a sixspeed + torsen 3.6 for sure. I can also arrange you an engine for a fair price.

MX5-Cruiser 03-30-2016 02:32 PM

I'll keep that in mind, thx!

Hey, I'm from the Netherlands as well! Nice to see a new Dutch member joining so soon after me :P Your MX-5 looks really nice. I'd love to see what you're going to do with it, since it seems like you're going to do/already did it properly.
One question though, are you doing the rust repairs yourself or are you spending the money to let someone else do it? Also, how bad is the rust, since I'm kinda scared of rust since I got my car and it'll definately need some welding.

MX5-Cruiser 03-30-2016 03:51 PM

If you can see it on the outside, it's time to do something about it... Mine turned out to be 'fixed' before and not really the proper way.. so rust damage was worse then expected. My brother is currently fixing the rust, at least now I know for sure the repair this time is done properly!
It's kind of 'boring' putting money in non-speed improving mods first, but I'm planning to hold on to this car for many years to come, so better make it good first, and then make it fast too ;) Handling is spot on, I also like the Wilwoods!

Last year rust was attacked

All this was a year ago, at this moment turbo build is in progress
Was planning to upgrade drivetrain with new upgraded clutch and LSD, do a coolant reroute. Basicly last preparation for turbo.
Got a 3.6 Torsen II with a lot of age/kilometers by the looks of it
http://www.rocketfuel.nl/citrosport/MX5/MX5-061.jpg

Very clean IL motorsport coolant reroute, bit too clean so I'll paint it black

Competition Clutch stage 3 clutch kit with lighter flywheel

Took off the 5-speed

I was in doubt if the main seal was the only thing causing the oil leaks on the rear of the engine since I got the car, so decided to go ahead with the Turboing part, because with the sump off only a fool would not drill it for turbo oil return.

Engine out, time to clean up a bit here
