GtiKyles intro

Might as well get this out of the way. I usually lurk, search, read, then search some more.
But, let's just get an intro out of the way so i can contribute where I can when I'm ready.

Quick bio: Not new to mazdas

My first "car" build (i'd done 4x4's prior) was a POS mazda Rx7. In hindsight i should have bought a cleaner car, but i was cheap back then due to college.

Installed an LS1/4L60E

I learned plenty on the trip with that car. What to do right, what to do wrong...etc.

I moved onto a much better platform. A 93 Mazda FD. Bought it not running, threw a $20 sensor in it and it ran OK. I was not about to throw away money trying to mod a rotary :dealwithit:, so it was back to what i knew best. This time, with 6 gears of manual goodness.

Then there was the twin turbo C5:

The wifes DD:

Alright, so you get it, we're into mazdas.

Now to get to the one you actually care about. I bought this car for my wife (don't judge, i love my wife). She wanted an autox car, and I couldn't say no to that.

So my original intent on buying this car was to swap it with an LS1. After much thought, i think the cost would be too much, and i really would like a simpler approach. I landed here, and have been researching. I'm sure my plan will change, but I'm either going with a full FMII kit (mostly for simplicity, knowing full well the power/tuneability left on the table), or piecing together with their manifold+SR20 turbo+ MS. Again, still doing research, so I'll make a thread later on that.

Anyways, flame away. Noob, fag search omg killyourself DIAF get aids. :fawk:

Really nice intro, welcome to the site. Seems like you're pretty good at putting LSx's in Mazdas... *poke, poke*

Is that a sexual innuendo?

Also, like an idiot I forgot my cat:

Very nice lineup of cars there and it's cool that the wife shares in the hobby as well! I especially like the FD. Where are the pictures of your cat(s)? (*nevermind, you got the ninja post in)

Simple method would be an FM No Electronics kit + MS + Choice of Injectors. But it all mostly depends on what you want to spend (budget build vs. buy it all at once brand new) and what platform of EMS you're comfortable with and that the tuners around you support.

And if you just have to have an NB to swap an LSx into, I'd gladly let you borrow my '99 for that duty.

Fantastic intro!!! Welcome!

Damn... Youve had some awesome cars. lol
Your first RX7 reminds me of mine.
Your second AR EXEVEN is teh sechs..
And, looks like you bought a badass miata. Probably the best miata you could have gotten, especially if you are wanting to build a monster. Good job!
Props for awesome sink cat as well...

Welcome to the forum. Any plans to go on track?

Seefo 01-27-2014 12:21 PM

cool stuff, but why Gti in the name?

bikersam717 01-27-2014 12:24 PM

Was going to neg prop, then saw the cat. Props all around.
Love the Rx-7's. Can't wait to see what you do with the Miata.

Thanks, plan is first to do some autox. We did some in the past in her SRT4, but we're in a better position now to dedicate a car for its use. Perhaps someday track will be in the future.

Nickname from highschool. I used to have a 92 Gti, so the name stuck.

Thanks, I realized i negated some important details:

2002 Base
163k on the clock
The original intent with buying this car was to LS1 swap it, so miles/lack of LSD didn't matter because the rear end was gonna get pitched. Since that plan is out the window, i've got some more leg work to do with tracking down an LSD, and ensuring this motor is boost ready.

Another point of contention for me, based on my searching, is keeping VVT on 01+ engines. If i understand right, functionality does now exist for VVT control on full standalones in MS3x? I've done wiring before on engine swaps, but for ease of installation, and being able to pass emissions (swap injectors, replug in stock ECU), I really want as PNP as possible.

Correct; we have a direct fit model called the Basic MS3. PM me for more if you are interested.
