Hardcore newb style

Hello all. :noob:
*Insert standard story of buying junk Miata for $300 and getting it running again*

Now that that's out of the way I can go over some upgrades (to me).
It's got Vmaxx coil overs a buddy sold me for $100
Mazdaspeed MM and energy suspension diff mounts
Ebay rims with Toyo tires (shh. I know their stigma)
Innovative wideband
Ebay volt meter
2 day driving course in Daytona

Not the best picture. Also, I'm not the type that documents my progress very well... I tend to just build it and play with it. I do, however, want to do a small build thread with this one. My current plan is to do a non intercooled turbo setup on the 1.6 whilst I build a 1.8 (that I got for free!!!!). Lots of research and lots of input are two things I'm still getting. The car is far from being show capable so I'm just going to strip what it doesn't need, add a touch of power and enjoy the smiles. Once the 1.8 is done, I'll go through and do a more custom job so please don't jump down my throat when I buy a bandaid or a cheaper part for the 1.6... I'm saving the money to put in to the bigger one :D

Now that my story (partially) is out of the way, I hope to continue to get halfway decent input from you guys. Underdog's Sunburst was the build that made me decide to get a Miata. After that, this guy on Youtube, Quinn Kizis, turned me onto the idea of shooting for big power. Hope to hear from some of you along the way and hope to give some of you ideas too!

No bandaids needed, buy MS3 for the 1.6 and use it for the 1.8.

Currently being built!
I didn't think I should include it if I wasn't on. I also have a 1.8 diff in the garage, new clutch for the turbo swap, some Meghan seat I'm trying to make fit and a bit of piping I want to build a roll bar and door bars out of (door bars because they look cool!)

Ah OK when I read "don't jump down my throat when I buy bandaids for the 1.6" I assumed you were going to use an FMU or something.

Also your pics don't work, I think you need to add '.jpg' or whatever on the end of the link.

I'm going to go ahead and take responsibility for that. I've read that those are considered 'band aids' on here but I just meant cheapo bits to get keep me running, ie junkyard hoses that happen to fit and presidential solutions for other things.

I was thinking about it and I also want to add that most of my fiddling time is done on my Harley or my Honda... 1998 Sportser 1200 and a 1973 cb 125s. They tend to take most of my technical time since they tend to break more often. The plan is do to MOSTLY* bolt on power stuff with the 1.6. I'll expand my technical horizons when I need to on the 1.8 so please excuse (make fun of all you want but don't write me off) me if I don't know a gapping or a standard part of this car.

If you can't use it on your 1.8, don't buy it for your 1.6.

If you put money into your 1.6, you'll never put in the 1.8.

Things that will transfer over: turbo (though you said you want big power on the 1.8 so probably not), downpipe (if you keep the same turbo) exhaust, injectors.

That's about it. I'd probably do MS and maybe injectors on the 1.6, learn to tune it and live with the slowness while expediting the 1.8 build. Anything else is money down the drain.

As of right now, the plan is to use the same turbo for both. I was going to run a .50 ar that a 'buddy' had on his before he got a Garrett. I've read it was a little slow on the 1.6 but good enough for the 1.8? Thoughts?

I was also thinking of selling the turbo 1.6 for some upgrades on the 1.8, once it's in, which would include injectors and such. Still researching that but you should know that I'm taking it slow. It's my only vehicle with a windshield so I don't plan on cutting ALL the corners.:dealwithit:

Also, my tuner will be whispering in my ear this whole time so I may return to subjects for different reasons.

And I'm dyslexic so pics help if you need to explain a technique that I'm not grasping.
