Hey guys. My name is Liam and i live in calgary, alberta. I had been looking at buying a miata since about late july and found one for sale in november. Went on a short test drive, and the car was a blast. Its a 1990 classic red miata. Picked it up for 3600 CAD (~2500 usd) Has a turbo setup with an intercooler, running on stock ECU. Has a welded 1.6 diff, roll bar, some xxr's and some coilovers. Haven't had any time to look over the car in-depth (went into a heated garage for winter).

I'm super excited to learn about the miata, and join in on the community and wealth of knowledge all over the internet.

I already have some parts purchased and waiting for the car to come out of hibernation such a 3.9 torsen to swap out the crappy 1.6 welded diff. I've been talking to someone this week about buying their MS PNP 2 supposedly built by Braineack, so that will be exciting! Still looking at some injectors, rebuilding the shifter, 70 duro motor mounts and changing all of the fluids out as well.

I don't how how many people are located in my area of Canada but i'd love to meet some of you! And thanks to all the people that have posted their knowledge on this website.

I would like to. The nearest track to me is about 3 hours, so not a far drive. The car does need some work though. The coilovers that are on the car now are super bouncy and it needs an alignment, i don't know if the coilovers are even that great to be honest. But i would love to get some track time in the boosted beast :)

Nice, looking forward to seeing you at a trackday/meet. I think I've seen you post in the FB group.

What coilovers do you have on the car right now?

sixshooter 01-17-2016 10:53 AM

If they are bouncy, they suck. If they were chosen by the same guy who welded the 1.6 diff then you already know he has bad judgment.

I don't know what brand the coilovers are but when i took a look from underneath the car they looked black/red. I'll be able to take a better look when it comes out of the garage.

The story the kid gave me, which i almost don't believe is that he bought the car off of an older guy, 40-50, who bought it from a dealership. My guess is that the older guy he bought it off of did the turbo setup, and the majority of the work. The turbo setup looks well done, not shotty, then again i have 0 experience with turbo setups. The kid told me he had the car for a month and was going to use it as a drift car but it was too uncomfortable. Looking back now i don't know why i believed any of this story haha.

Thanks! I'm so excited to get my hands on that MS PNP 2. Stock ecu life is scary haha.

Hello from Canadia

Snap some pics of the shocks and somebody may be able to identify them.

They may not actually be terrible but if the kid tried to lower the car incorrectly then you may be hitting the bumpstops and that may explain the poor ride. Pics of the top of the coils while the tires are still on the ground could tell us something if you can get a camera in there.

M enthusiast 01-17-2016 09:12 PM

For sure. Right now i'm paying a guy to store the car for me in his garage, so i can't go and see it whenever i want. As soon as it gets warmer here and the snow goes away i'll get a closer look.

M enthusiast 01-18-2016 12:04 AM

My main goal is to make it into a fun street car with a little power. I live about an hour and a half from some fun twisty roads, and about 2 hours away from the rocky mountains. It'll be a summer only car, for now anyways. I've been looking at so many different parts for different sections of the car but haven't bought anything due to how crappy the Canadian dollar is vs the US dollar.

Hey Brain, when you build the megasquirt pnp's for people, do you put any sort of sticker or something on it before you sell it?

I'm going to look at one tonight that the seller says was built by you, i just don't want to get ripped off.

sixshooter 01-20-2016 05:37 PM

Have the seller take a picture of the circuit board and send it to you then post it here.
