Hello from Central KY

Hello all, my name is Korey Morris. I've come here to start research on going turbo with my 1990 Classic Red Miata. I've read in many of the threads, "You better go introduce yourself", so here I am... Introducing myself!

I bought my car from a retired road racer's widow a year and a half ago. He had built the car as his retirement toy (street, track, autocross) with a Jackson racing m45 supercharger kit, Tokico Illuminas, racing beat springs, sways, and braces. I picked the car up after sitting for a year or more after his death, freshened up the suspension (spec miata kit), added some RA-1s, a Hard Dog Hardcore Double Diagonal, Seat, Harness, and hardtop and have been beating it up on the track ever since.

I've started to have some trouble out of some of the m45 parts, and after this weekend at the track (Putnam Park) I've decided to embark on a more power quest over the winter. Initially I planned to go V8 with the car, but the engineer inside of me wants to push the 1.6 a little harder before I cast it away.

Welcome to the forum.

What's up korey! Glad to hear you're getting rid of the supercharger and moving up to a turbo!

slutz4 11-02-2009 02:39 PM

what track is that? and where are you located in KY?\

Welcome btw =]

Thanks guys! My buddy told me that i'd be shunned here for my current lack of turboage:

lol. miataturbo is definitely the best performance-based miata forum I've come across. if you're not turboed then keep your mouth shut though. they get pretty pissed when anyone even begins to imply that turbos aren't equal to god. not owning a turbo miata is the same as implying that to them...
Don;t worry... I'm on my way!

Glad to see some semi-local faces around here. My town (Lexington, KY) has seen its fair share of BAD miatas, and I've been lucky (dumb) enough to be influenced by several of them.

Slutz, that is Putnam Park. West of Indy, possibly the best beginner track on earth, and where several of us in the midwest call home!

I've met you BTW. One afternoon about a year ago I left town with DustinLib and one of his roomates for a backroad meetup with some NKY/Cincy guys. You where there, and if I'm not mistaking I bought some parts off of you. Some interior trim or something. Then me and that guy in the White NB on NT01's preceeded to rip up that ridge road...

Welcome!

Nice looking classic red.

Lol at above comment...I didn't think it was that bad here. They put up with me non-turbo for a few months. Although I, like yourself, atleast had plans on learning and going turbo.

You can do a lot with the 1.6L. I've just barely done exhaust and a few other things and turned up the knob just a little more after sitting at 10psi with factory ignition and exhaust since last spring. The difference was like going turbo all over again.

Good luck.

Shameless plug:

I've got a few cheap hotside parts including a T25 that could use a rebuild if you're the DIY type.

welcome good to see more kentuckians.

Welcome. No hate for the supercharger here. I know ban me.......I think I would rather have a supercharged auto X car.

But I will not lie.... If you want power go TURBO and try to get a GT2560 or equivilent. it spools well, and WAY MORE POWER!

You will like the upgrade.

Thanks again guys! I've enjoyed my s/c Miata, and have been looking into higher power options there, but I think the time has come to gut it and start my own thing from scratch.

I'm very much the DIY type, and am contemplating making my own manifold (for cost and fun factor). Here is a pic of the first (and last) manifold that I designed and built for the university of KY Formula SAE car

Gospeed, get me link or PM what you have. A big part of my presence here is to find reasonably priced parts!

ahh yeah.... Flicr... not much to see. I'm pretty sure everyone's seen a classic red miata with v6 mx3 wheels and a HD roll bar... The entire album from our lapping day at Putnum this past sunday can be found here:

I'll attach a few for your pleasure...

The nice thing about turbo is you can add money to a drivable car over time. The V8 conversion requires all the cash up front.

I'd say th is the biggest lure for me right now!
