Hello from Florida!

Hey everyone i'm new here. I just wanted to say hey and introduce myself and maybe meet a few people on the forums.
First of all my names Devin and I happen to be one of those dreaded teenagers that all people hate, but i'm not that bad. I'm not stuck up, snobby, or any other arbitrary stereotype you can come up with.
I live in sunny Jacksonville, Florida. If you live near me then tell me i'd love to talk to you about Miatas and maybe see your Miata. I don't actually own a Miata yet, I'm trying to find the right one that is in my price range and actually in a reasonable distance from me :/ so far no luck. I'm looking at somewhere right around a 5000$ budget right now. I'm trying to find one with a good body and a turboed engine. The turbo doesn't even have to be in yet, i'd love to do it myself. (If you have something you think i'd like email me at robotshadow@comcast.net)
I plan to build up on it slowly but surely over time from the money at a part time job while attending school. Then maybe one day i'll have a real Miata. Questions? Comments? Opinions? Complaints? Greetings? Anything just say it.

You may do well here. Welcome.

For $5000 you should be able to pick up something decent.

Honestly I would tell you to wait if possible until this winter, and drive up here, ill be you can find a NICE NB or NB2 for that price since the cost of convertibles goes down during winter by a good bit.... Just my 2 cents.... since thats when i got my miata and a hell of a deal at that....8800 for a 03 with 43K miles on it...... Out the door......

elite56 09-05-2011 11:41 AM

Really any model that's a 1993 or newer. And color doesn't really matter to me at this point, any color will do.
And at the rate i'm going it'll be winter by the time I find one anyways haha.

Emissions will be something to think about too when choosing a model. Start reading the stickies for some beginner info on turbos and so forth. Welcome to the best high performance miata forum.

I was actually looking into this one.

The post has been up for a month so it may be gone by now. It's exterior isn't that good but the interior and all the other upgrades make it worth it I think. All it really needs is a couple exterior panels replaced and a paint job and it'll look nice.
Any opinions on it?

triple88a 09-05-2011 02:09 PM

I'd say if u dont rely on it being your DD go for it. Looks like a nice ride and i'm sure those upgrades are way over the 4k hes asking however theres probably few things that will pop up so it wont be instant fun/reliability. I'm assuming he was tunning it and tunning it and couldnt get it right so it went over his head and hes just trying to get rid of it at this point.

elite56 09-05-2011 02:13 PM

Ah dang it. Any Miata I get for now would have to be my DD. Guess i'll have to try to find another :/ I guess reliability is a big issue for me atm as well

viperormiata 09-05-2011 02:42 PM

That car was actually for sale on here for awhile. I'm pretty sure he parted it out already.

elite56 09-05-2011 02:54 PM

Well damn. Finding a Miata is much harder then you would think...

triple88a 09-05-2011 03:02 PM

Personally i'd start with looking at our classified here in the forum. Theres plenty of miatas here for sale just gotta find the right one.

elite56 09-05-2011 03:09 PM

I have found some. However any that i'm interested in don't fit my budget or are to far away for me to purchase.

mx-p5 09-08-2011 11:35 AM

Finding a miata isn't difficult, but finding a CLEAN miata for a decent price is!

And, as stupid as it may sound, the cars do go up in value in Summer (I know, it's always summer here)

Just keep your eyes peeled.

Just how far ARE you willing to travel? I could always keep my eyes peeled

Oh and welcome!

FRT_Fun 09-08-2011 11:57 AM

If I did it all over again I'd get an early 90s on the cheap. Since I have replaced just about everything on the car at this point.... twice.

Clos561 09-08-2011 12:18 PM

stay patient, it took me 2-3 months of looking at craigslist ads, autotrader ads and countless trips to visit cars that turned out to be shit. eventually i found my 99 and paid 3600. for 5k you can get a well maintained car with reasonable miles.

^truth

It took me close to 4 months to find my NB2 for a NB1 price. I really recommend waiting until winter and checking GA,AL,NC,SC,TN. I can guarantee you that the prices drop a lot in the winter time,

elite56 09-08-2011 04:56 PM

That's pretty much what I'm going for. I think I'm going to end up buying a stock miata and put in suspension, sway bars, turbo, etc as I go.
