Hello, Introduction thread!

Hey whatup miataturbo community.
I am so glad to join this forum, and to finally not be slow! I actually just decided on impulse to go turbo, so that I can hopefully competitively drift this season.
I am buying a couple of parts from a friend of mine, he had the Greddy Turbo Kit with the 14G TD04H and he was putting out over 200whp, which is just perfect for me. I dont know if this is the right place to post questions, but I do have several.
He has leftover from his accident,
The turbo, full exhaust - the downpipe, injectors and fuel pump (dont remember what sizes but they should suffice since i am mimicking his setup), and all the necessary gauges.
I know there are several things left to buy, but Id rather hear from an experienced member exactly whats left to buy to both finish this kit, and make sure I can safely run enough boost to maintain at least 200 whp.

Also, I have a 1.8 motor, but in a 1.6 chassis. Am I gonna have to look for a 1.8 rear end? If this is the case, then my Cusco RS 2-Way Differential would also not suffice for the power? I also just recently purchased an Exedy Stage 1 clutch kit, before I decided to boost of course. Will this clutch be enough or is a new one required as well?

Thank you so much for reading, and I definitely need help here!!!
I am new to turbos in general, so I may sound retarded, but please be kind:)

anyways, here are some pics of my car

nice ride, but the greddy will not fit a 1.8, the manifold is not the same. the intercooler piping will be slightly different as well. Dont bother with upgrading the diff in your rear end, the 1.6 setup is far too weak due to the size of the ring gear... so you will definitely want a 1.8 rear end which will handle 200 rwhp without breaking a sweat.

You may be better off selling the Greddy in the classifieds here and picking up a BEGI S kit. Its better in every way.

I actually need to buy a new manifold anyway,
so new rear end eh....bahh that means a new diff as well, because I NEED a 2-way.

What about the Exedy Stage 1 Clutch, will that work or do I need a new clutch as well. And can anyone else elaborate on other things I need. Ecu?

lo n slo 02-12-2008 07:09 PM

oh and I forgot to clarifty, I didnt buy the kit yet, but its only the turbo, exhaust-downpipe, and fuel pump and injectors..
will these components not work with a 1.8L engine? I understand that custom piping will be required for the downpipe and the intercooler, anything else that I should know?
Sorry guys Im a fawkin newb

just make sure you get a manifold that will put the turbo in a position in which you can use the existing downpipe. You dont have to have an ECU, you can use a RRFPR for fuel and a bipes for timing, but you'd be better off getting a standalone, especially at 200whp and over, and I highly reccomend the MSPNP. http://www.mspnp.comI have no Idea on the clutch, dont know the specs.

You don't want the Exedy Stage 1, it's basically a stock replacement. You should try and get a ACT HD or a clutchnet equivalent if you can.

Read the FAQ in blue in my SIG.

yeah, after some more research, this turbo kit is gonna cost me a lot more than expected.
I need to buy 1.8 rear end, a new diff from Cusco, new Clutch, then manifold, new fuel pump, new injectors, some form of management, new downpipe, and prolly an oil cooler and a new radiator...I think im leaning on buying a brand new kit rather than dealing with the hassle of piecing one together. Although I have a 1.8 swapped into a 1.6, so will it be a little hard to find a kit?

cjernigan 02-12-2008 09:59 PM

Buy this.

You dont need a cusco diff, buy a RX7 clutch type and save $600.

What part of meet and greet do you not understand?

lo n slo 02-13-2008 12:41 AM

deng i jus got forum owned haha
sorry bout that

y8s 02-13-2008 09:52 AM

well since you dont have drift or jdm or so cal visible under your username and since you went straight into turbo stuff... you will probably be safe.

You don't NEED a 2-Way

lo n slo 02-13-2008 02:53 PM

yeah, but I do prefer an aftermarket diff though, at least a 1.5way. btw I remember your car from roadsterdrift?

Fireindc 02-13-2008 03:03 PM

lol, your tires don't fit on your rims.

y8s 02-13-2008 04:00 PM

i thought i read that all the doriftos were switching to 1.5 ways because they didn't like the aggressiveness on decel...

as it is with my kaaz 1.5, it's pretty effin stout either way.

Yep 2 way is way too much.

FWIW: I drove 2 seasons on a Torsen. It's gets the job done.

If he tells you that you do not need that, I'd take his advice.
