Hello, this is my barn find...

Hello everyone, this is my first post on the forum. Figured I would introduce myself and my new barn find. Picked this car up from a lol guy here in Ely, Nevada. I was driving around looking for property to buy/build a home on and spotted this out of the corner of my eye. Went to the guys door and offered him some cash for it that he declined. He had big plans for the car to race it in a local race called the "silver state classic challenge"; a race consisting of many different speed classes, the coarse is 90 miles or so and there is no speed limit... Well after 2 months of not hearing from him he called me and said he would take my offer on the car as he was moving to Reno and could not take it with him. This is my first Miata but not my first race/performance car. I am excited to get this car in my garage and tearing into it. Plans are going to be get it running first to make sure engine in good and operating correctly, then going to yank it, clean the bay up and remove any unnecessary items, reseal the engine while its out and start doing full suspension mods, coilovers, bushings, knuckle mods, sway bars etc... I will start a build thread once I get started!
Stay tuned for more photos that aren't horrible cellphone quality! https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1384229936 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1384229936 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1384229936 |
Nice find
|
Thank you! I am still shocked he took my $500 dollar offer for it. The car has sat for a year, but has a motor, trans, etc.. Going to do a compression test on it, change fluids, do plugs, wires etc and see if she wont run this weekend.
|
500?!?!? Sweet tits. What a steal.
|
Caged complete miata for $500?!?! Definitely a WIN there! Congrats
|
That is a steal! That cage alone is worth $750+ even on the used market.
|
That cage work would be close to 2K with the paint work. Damn that is a smoking deal.
|
Great start on a spec Miata. Really good looking cage. Are you planning to build for a certain class, or just creating an HPDE track-day terror? Miatas are, hands-down, the best track cars going. Great suspension, easy on components due to light weight, tough as nails. You're going to love it.
I just picked up a second, dedicated track Miata myself ("Red") so I can keep the Silver more streetable. I'll be driving Red as-is for awhile, but I hear the LS sirens calling. LOL. |
Welcome to the site Deacon, thanks for joining up!
|
Holy shit, nice find. Whats the engine look like?
|
Son of a ,......
Congrats on the score and a great foundation. |

Ha ha ha thanks guys! I really appreciate all the positive feedback! I will actually take some legit photos with my Nikon tomorrow while I am at work(where my car is at for now). the engine is there but going to need some tender loving care. It has a eBay aluminum radiator as well as an eBay cold air intake. I am going to be pulling the motor once I get all my tools out where I live now as well as get a place with a garage. I relocated to Ely, NV for a job and am still settling in.
I did find this little gem along with an Optima Redtop battery in the trunk today. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1384316717 |
Yeah, yeah, yeah, sick deal and all, but do you have a cat?

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1384320049 <"Holy Crap Edit">. Good lord you freak, have you *greased* that dog??? HAWT! You may just fit in around here after all... |
Wait! Total redemption opportunity for you here Dog Greaser.... Do you possibly have an exhibitionist girlfriend? Meth scabs and eyes of jellied fire are a plus.
We don't ask for much around here, but what we do ask for is generally sort of disturbing. Welcome! |
Ha ha ha I can already tell I am going to love it here! This Miata may have been the best decision I have ever made... On a side not I hooked my daily driver up the the Miata, turned the key and the car fired right up...
|
What, and it runs? Boost it!

Also a huge fan of 2.5rs's, and really any subaru. :P The 1995 S14 was my baby, I bought the car as a super clean one owner, only mods the old man I bought it from did to it were Nismo Coilovers, Cusco front strut bar and some Motegi Wheels(17x9 up front and 18x10.5 rear). I bought a running SR20DET Red Top swap for it but sadly it had a spun rod bearing. Decided to rebuild the motor, I did full oem build on it, new bearings, rings, pistons, all new head, etc... Had the stock t25, full 3" turbo back exhaust to a 4" tip(buddy club spec 2), FMIC, Intake, Boost Controller, etc... car was a blast! Miss it daily! Sold it then it got wrecked and totaled out. Summer Mode: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1384494910 Winter Mode: https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...27041311_n.jpg Next car was that 1999 Impreza 2.5rs. That was a blast to drive! It was all stock on in the motor department besides ebay manifold, and Apexi Nior exhaust. Car was sitting on some Work XD9's(my favorite wheel) powder coated purple(my favorite color and probably going on the Miata once I decide a wheel choice. The suspension on the car was a very rare and expensive Prodrive Coilover setup, HKS actually made them but Prodrive had some more options then the HKS versions had. it was a great daily driver and very fun to drive! Thank you for the positive comments and feedback! |

Pulled the battery out and threw it on a 2 amp slow charge for the night, hopefully it charges and holds. If not going to be purchasing a new one and looking for recommendations...

Ha ha ha ha sat on this deal for 2 months, didn't call or bug the guy at all and he got hard up for money and took my offer, perseverance and patience pays off... I honestly thought he wasn't gonna do it but I got lucky and he did. I plan on working the the car this weekend to see what else I can find. I am honestly still amazed that after sitting a year plus the car fired right up. I drove it around the block and she runs good but has some power issues in second gear, nothing a tune up and some good gas wont fix, along with checking the timing and cleaning all the grounds and wiring. I cant wait to get this thing going and cruising it down the street here in this small town I live in. I also cant wait to get hit up Miller Motorsports Park next season! Big plans for this little car! Thanks for all the positive feedback guys! I have been apart of Subaru forums, Nissan forums, Cummins forums, and Honda forums and this is by far the best one! Every one has a great sense of humor, and everyone is so kind and not nazi stance this stance that douche bags!
|
We hate "stance" here. Seriously. We run people off this place for it
|
Welcome to the site. Can't wait to see what else you find. Probably a good chance there's a torsen rearend in there.

Drove the car around today, let her warm up and she runs great! burns a little oil upon start up and runs really rich for some reason, needs a tune up among many other things.

cage looks good
|
I like the top-down-with-snow-on-the-trunk pic. lol
That cage is Pretty awesome. Does a soft top fit over it by any chance? |

From what I see, I would say no. Cages typically have a wider angle between the rear down bars and the main hoop as compared to your average soft top friendly roll bar. The wider angle prevents the soft top from resting properly in the down position because the rear bars are in the way. |

Its a Miatacage.com cage and Ive heard that a fiberglass hard top will work with it.
