Hello from noob

Hello all,
I’m a 17 year old that has a fair share of expierence with na miatas. With looking at over 15 different ones in the past 2 years. Only been able to find three clean cars.
First being a incredible 97 montego mica blue with an astonishing 22k miles that I flipped. $2800 purchase!!
Later purchased a mid production 12/89 mica red miata with 109k that I also sold.
2 months ago purchased an early production Na 7/89 that came with the early “loud exhaust” that later got changed to a quieter toned exhaust due to customer complaints. And the non finned rear diff. It was in a fender bender from the previous owner... left fender and hood don’t line up exactly but it is a true early Na with absolutely no rust on the rockers or on the frame and truly a gem to me that I would like to preserve Mica red with 47k.

This dinky 1.6 is lacking power and I’ve recently joined this forum for the top notch turbo details and straight up information.

Currently searching for turbo lag information. the pros and cons of running a big turbo, for example turbonetics t04e compared to a Garrett gt2560r
I want something that’s got more top end. P.S Still searching don’t rip me for that comment

Yes. I know the turbo isn’t the only thing important coming into a turbo build. I have sourced my Ms, manifold, ic piping, ewg I got it all thought out. now I’m doing the nitty gritting info on Ms tuning and finalizing my turbo selection decision.

Any input from the vets would be awesome push me to the right direction. I’m not an average teen with a spoon-fed type mentality.

Thanks,

an EFR 6258 does it all.

I think you need to better define your goals and/or the purpose of your Miata in order to decide which route to go with the turbo. Is it a street car? Drag car? Track car? Auto X car? Canyon carver? Etc. For example, if it's a street car I'm not sure why you would want a large turbo with lots of lag, how often during daily driving are you above 5000 rpm?

Also, my opinion is to pick something that is compatible with an already designed off the shelf manifold = less headache. Unless you can or know someone who can fabricate parts for you.

I also don't see a selection for what type of clutch you plan to use to hold this new found power you're after.

Injectors are 550cc Bosch ev14

Jacobmx5_ 11-21-2018 11:59 AM

It will just be a street car and that’s all.
I dont want to get into numbers I’ll see how the build goes I still have months before I actually start building it in the summer. Research time and part sourcing.

1990 just sold. Plans have changed
Picked up a 1995 Montego blue 125k.
Instead of fiddling and basically removing the whole drive train of the 1.6 if planning a turbo build it made more sense at a money and time stand point to buy a NA8.

SMART!
