Hello from S. Tx

Hey guys,
Not exactly new here but have never really contributed much. Back around 11-12 years ago I had a 1996 Miata with around 230K miles on it that I commuted with to save on gas. Started having more kids and needed to drop to one vehicle so I ended up selling it.

After a 6 month search, last week I picked up an excellent condition M Edition 1997 Green/Tan Miata with 120k on the odometer. Miata's are hard to come by down here. It has a new top and new seat covers but it needs paint and I'm doing all maintenance because priors are unknown...I'm making a post on that that I'll put up once everything I ordered comes in....Doing all fluids, belts, plugs, wires, etc. I'll be doing the timing belt, water pump, and brakes in a few weeks. I bought the car with the intention of boosting it. I have about 8k in my budget and I'm down to about 4200 now after car and all maintenance/paint is completed. I'm going to plasti dip her which I'll also have a post on at some point.

I was shocked to see that everyone is going to standalone now. "Back in my day" comments aside, that is intimidating. I was expecting a Bipes and FMU, lol. My goal is a 200 hp car. I'm a DIY'er and have my shopping list for a flange and weld-elds for the manifold, but it's on hold until I can get my mind made up about engine management. Because of my low power goals I've also considered the MP62 route but those seem to be very few and far between....plus I think I'd have to go standalone anyway and I can piece together a turbo setup cheaper.

Personally I'm 34, father of 4. I'm a nurse practitioner that works in a very large family practice. I hunt/fish and do a bunch of outdoors stuff. Looking forward to many years here.

Welcome to the forum!

A lot as changed but in a way it's gotten easier. 200 is easily obtainable these days and there are plenty of options for turbo setups from mild to wild. Check out what MKTurbo and Trackspeed as to offer as well as several other vendors on this forum. There are, however, some vendors that have been around for ages and through some searches, you'll find that they, unlike fine wine and cheese, do not age well.

I agree MK Turbo will be most cost effective reliable setup. Check out the official vendor section.

Don't fear the Megasquirt. Much easier and better than the Bipes/FMU route these days.
