Hello there I'm a noob

Howdy yall, my names Anthony and I'm going to (hopefully) boost my miata soon. I sourced a rebuilt turbo from a 300zx for super cheap and I may have accidently been given the passenger side turbo versus the driver side lol. I know I need to get a custom fab downpipe but I can't tell if the turbo doesn't look like it will sit properly. If this is indeed the wrong side turbo I'm going to return it for the proper one. If anyone has used a 300zx turbo for their miata I'd love to hear about everything you had to do to make it work. I feel like an idiot for getting myself into something I'm absolutely not knowledgeable of and getting this turbo rather than a t25 from a sr20 or even save for a gt2560r. I just wanted to boost on a budget lol if it doesn't work out for this turbo it won't be a huge loss and I'll just get something legitimate.

Get rid of that turbo and buy one that is known to fit with off the shelf manifolds and down pipes. Starting a build, especially off a random turbo you got is a bad idea. Unless you know how to weld.

Plan on spending between $3000-$4000 to properly turbo your miata and have it reliable at about the limits of the stock motor.

thanks man I appreciate the input. I wanted to try something unique, I've read a few forums on here of people using the same turbo but having to fab up some parts but it's probably better if I just save my money for a proper build.

Can you weld? If not trying to be unique is going to cost you a ton more money, as paying people to weld for you gets expensive fast. Yes you can use the random turbo you bought. Plan on spending between $600-$1000 for a manifold for it, then another $350-$750 for a custom down pipe. Then you still have to figure out everything else to make it work on your own. There are certain paths that you can take that are already mapped out for the miata. Yes they are done all the time, it is because they are the easiest and cheapest way to get a miata boosted.

I personally can't, but I have a friend who can help me out. I'm thinking I only need a custom downpipe because it's a 4 bolt outlet versus the 5 bolt. It's still a t2 pattern on the side for the manifold. I could be wrong. I usually am, it's what I do best lol.

When you say a friend to help you out. Do you expect 5-10 hours of time out of him for free for welding? I am just trying to be realistic hear when it comes to getting stuff built. Especially if it is one off stuff.

Welcome to the forum. We are really cheap but we are also practical. These aren't Ferraris so function is more important than looks to most of us.

Don't do it.

I'm gonna ditch the idea of using that turbo. Gonna pick up a gt2560r
