HEY KIDS. I'M NEW HERE.

Hey, what's up y'all. Here's the floop poop mcpoopity poop scoop - I have owned a Miata nigh a month now and am loving it. I'm an amateur mechanic and am generally not a total dumbass most of the time usually. The car is a 1992 CW 159k miles, with a Greddy TD04H turbo, a pretty big intercooler, mishimoto radiator, radiator shield thingy near the hood latch to improve efficiency. Running 5.5psi of boost. Jackson Racing timing retard, no pinging AFAIK. Stock ECU and injectors. FM clutch/flywheel. PO did these mods and seemed to do a pretty good job. It's backfiring upon throttle release, seems to run a bit rich, idle a little high sometimes. Haven't checked plugs yet or replaced the trashed K&N filter. Bought a paper filter but need to mod it to make it fit. Bought oil temp gauge, new Denso plugs, new Nitto Neogens. I'm excited.

My question: I want to modify/replace the ECU, tune this baby right. From what i understand the factory ecu is not a very good idea with even a modest turbo like mine. Get it running nice and balanced. Reliable. It seems to run pretty good already, but I really have nothing to compare it to and it certainly isn't perfect. ANYWAY, JESUS. WHAT should I do? MS2? DIYPNP? Am I currently running a risk of jacking up my engine/turbo? I'm looking for a nice balanced solution. In the future, maybe some auto-x. I want reliability. I've been cramming my brain from miata.net, here, the megamanual, etc. Trying to learn as much as possible. Thanks a lot guys and gals. I'm going to dig here more and post my q's in the appropriate areas.

Hey, thanks man! I saw that thread. I just found another recent thread and it looks like the DIYPNP is probably what I'm lookin' for. Gonna do some more reading.

Welcome!

For turbo related stuff (and basically anything relating to the Miata, stock or not) stop filling your brain with Miata.net and spend more time here.

Tee hee.
