Hey! Locost guy here!
Hey, I joined because I'm building a locost project and you miata guys have similar interests. Small car, high(ish) power, roadster. Love it. I've been stocking up on some miata parts, built me a frame, and about to mount the rear subframe from a 94 miata! Looking forward to learning alot from you guys and hearing your ideas.

Welcome. We have another brand noob Locost poster here that just finished his subframe installation.
Pics are here: https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t44851/ My Locost project is now somwhere in Texas. Never finished it. |
hey thanks! Why'd you quit building?
|
I got all of the fab work done and was driving one of my donor Miatas back and forth to work. The weather was crappy, it was raining and I wondered how much good weather that I would actually have to drive a permanently topless car in Nebraska. So, I sold it, bought a nice 99 Miata, turboed it, had fun, stripped everything off and sold it and started a V8 Miata. It should be done in a couple of months.

Sounds like we have a lot in common then. This locost I'm building is actually v8 powered (5.0 302), and I'm using a miata rear subframe and fabbing a tbird rear end to it. I've actually got a torsen chunk I'm thinking about getting rid of because I'm not going to use it. It happened to come with the rear subframe.

*waits for posts of "how much for Torsen chunk*
Well, if you want to look into putting a 8.8 IRS into a Miata subframe, look at my CURRENT build log. https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t40520/ starting around Post #40 |
Solid and sweet, looks like I'll be following your build closely. Thanks man!

Glad to see I;m in good company here.
My 7 is done and we are about to start the fun of playing with a new ECU. Turbo coming soon |

HRK used to post here. He had a 1.8 turbo locost that his was running NASA tt with and kicking A$$. The make for a lethal track car when you see what they run with- and that's "only" with 240whp. ;)

Cheap axles eh? Didn't know such a thing existed. I have the means to make some, both on my own and around Bowling Green (people are 100% car crazy here), but I worried about people and their craftsmanship. Last thing I want to do is pay a ton of money and get shoddy stuff that I could have made myself. Got any specific recommendations?
Sounds like this forum gets a lot of locosters from time to time. |

Stien, you seem to know your splines, any idea what the miata or ford splines are? I'm a gear cutter and this shit interests me.
