Default miata *****/ turbo noob

Hi I'm Tyler, from the D/FW area, and I've owned a miatas for a few years now and have been tearing them up since day one. I've read and learned a ton on this forum, but I'm finally growing a pair and making a post. I have a 4 running miatas currently, but i want to focus on turboing my 95 se montego blue (aqua now), it has 180k on the body, 5k on a built motor (forged rods, pistons, oil pump, rebuilt head) 80k tranny, 11lb flywheel, organic clutch, '97 injectors, a/c and power steering delete, coolant reroute, aluminum rad, headers, headerback, and weight reduction i.e. anything plastic.
I have a ae101 itb setup with adapter plate and a ported head to match, and an sr20 t25 with a manifold that i think would make one hell of a combo in this car. this is my first turbo build but it will be my fourth engine build. I've done my research (turbo books, read the stickys, years of reading). I know I'm not even close to having half the stuff i need but i want to do it as correctly as possible the first time for the cheapest i can, and yes, some ebay things may be used. Power goal of around 200 to the wheels, nothing too cray.
I like autocross, I love drifting, mixed feelings about drag, and would like to develop a more competitive taste for rally (yes she goes off road). I hope that's not too much!

Lolwut.

ITBs and Turbo?

Interesting combination for a first turbo build. I know it's theoretically possible, but I don't think I've ever heard of anyone actually doing it, particularly on a Miata.

I've never heard of anyone who likes autocross AND drift in the same sentence. Isn't that a contradiction?

Maybe he is one of those guys who drifts through autocross courses and pisses off the neighbors with all the wheel noise. I know our local group is having complaints from the neighbors about racing noise and we had to crack down on super loud exhausts and obvious drifting lately.

Why ITBs? Is just a turbo not enough stance points?

My local(ish) track always did "drift-cross" which was an autocross and drift day at the same time. They had drifting on the big course, and simultaneously ran an auto-x circuit in the small section of track and parking lot. It was awesome, very entertaining to watch. And if you entered one, you could compete in the other.

I'm not a huge dorifto fan, but anything that attracts more people to flog on their cars so i can watch/participate is good IMO.

Back on topic, OP give us pictarz! Sounds like you have a nice motor built up, why not put a real snail behind it? sr20 t25 + itbs sounds like a waste to me (as a current user of a sr20 t25 take my advice, this is not a turbo for a 1.8 if you want topend at all.) Especially so with a built motor.

I guess I the first pics didn't show, well here's a few of both my aesthetically completed cars: rally and drift. The blue one is in in pieces right now so engine pics would just be random parts and the green one is stock for the most part awaiting a swap.

The t25 is just to start out, i know it can handle alot more but i want to get used to forced induction and play it safe before i look into real power.
I have a car for each discipline of racing, that's why i have an interest in auto cross AND drift AND rally, I just love being behind the wheel going "fast" in a miata.

Welcome. Why have one miata when you can have four, right? At least you didn't say you wanted to NASCAR a miata. Yes, I used "NASCAR" as a verb. I think George W. Bush made it famous when he said, "I'm going to NASCAR my way to the White House."

DFW is probably one of the best places in the country for doing road courses -- a discipline a lot of us do that you didn't mention. Lots of options . . . MSR-C, Eagle's Canyon, TX MSW and, with some driving, MSR-H, Hallett, Harris Hill, COTA. If you really want to go fast, that's the way to do it!

I've seen the green car before somewhere. Can't remember.

Cool stuff.

Thread bump!!I love the green miata! It is similar with what I want to do to the front of mine. My passenger headlight mounting bracket is f***ed, and I was wondering how you did your headlight setup? Thanks in advance if you see this and respond!

I've seen a handful of ITB turbo setups now.. Not sure it's worth the hassle but it's a cool conversation regardless.

My guess is that he did a tube front end, and then welded a mounting tab for a light onto it.
