Hi from France

Hi,

My name is Mathieu. I live in France. I've also lived in the US for few years in Michigan around Detroit.
I've recently acquired a NB2 with 1.8vvt. It will be an on-going project with plans for turbo.
I'm curious to learn specifics about the car and mods around it.

I'm not new to cars. First of all, I was designing suspensions, then steering systems for a living (hence, why I was living in Michigan). I've I'd also got few cars I've modded: Evo 8, S14a with SR20DET (stock motor in Europe).
I also own for the last 12 years a Datsun 240z fully modded with high comp N/A L28 with Triple Weber, Programmable Ignition, Cam, exhaust, Port/Polish head, etc.

Back to the Miata, the car is pretty much stock with clean shell (already repaired) but rusty suspensions, shocks are super hard (most likely shot) with very rusty unknown lowering springs.
It's a quite low mileage car (60k mi) pretty clean inside / outside (only 1 ding), it has a 5 speed and sport brakes.

Short terms plan is to redo the full suspension. I've purchased front and rear frames with control arms, knuckles, brakes from a donor car I'm going to restore. Powder coating parts, bushings (I'm still hesitating between IL motorsports stiff bushings or PU), coilovers and 15in wheels with good tires are already planned.

Next will be the engine. I'm planning a turbo kit in the near future, hence why I'm here ready to learn/read.

...and for unknown reason, the board doesn't let me upload pictures - so no pics for now :( (I had to complain - remember where I live :D)

Wow, that's a nice collection you have there! Welcome!

Welcome.

You should be able to upload pics just by drag/drop or copy/paste them directly into the text window, or hot-linking them with the IMG tags.

Sounds like you know what you're doing in general, your car list is very cool, and there's a mountain of Miata specific information here (use Google to search the forum). Regarding the bushings, have a read through The Miata Bushing MEGAthread it should give you the information you need to make a decision.

What are the laws like in France regarding modified vehicles?

With a different computer I was able to post some pictures. Here's my NB2 with future wheels. Issue is fixed :)
When it comes to my car, evo8 and S14a have been sold some time ago. I've realized my mistake and I corrected it in the first post. (I can't keep them all up)

When it comes about modifying cars in France, nothing is legally allowed. Lowering springs, for instance, are technically not possible. We also have some kind of VAT regulations to be done every 2 years but they do check only safety and smog. So a car coming with 6 pistons Wilwood brake kit will pass the test easy as far as braking/safety capability. Operator will not check if brakes are stock units or not.
Main problem would be in case of major accident with fatal injuries while car/driver would be responsible for the mess. Insurance wouldn't cover it since car would be illegal.

and thanks for the link, I've missed it.
