Default Hello From New Guy in PA

Hello everyone. I picked up my 92 Miata 1.6 with 67k miles (and viscous LSD!) in very much stock condition at the beginning of the year, and of course I have been lurking the forums here pretty much since then. I've read a few very helpful books in the meantime, including Maximum Boost (which I discovered thanks to this forum). I hope I'm coming in with enough knowledge to help out from time to time- I would consider myself reasonably experienced with repairing cars, but this will be my first time adding forced induction where it did not previously exist.

I actually signed up a few months ago, but I haven't really needed to make a post yet; Everyone is pretty informative, and so far all of my questions were answered either through this forum, or Corky Bell's book. After having dug through more than a few compressor maps, and posts here, I've made the wildly unique decision to use a t25 from an sr20det as my introduction to turboing my Miata. I will not be purchasing a kit, but rather will be picking up things as I go along, and as opportunities present themselves.

Currently I have the car in my shed/garage to get it ready for the next stage, which will likely be megasquirt to introduce myself to tuning. Unfortunately, I have some northern state corrosion on the body to deal with before I dig into anything truly serious, and as such the only real improvement I've made to the car so far, other than the timing advance, is Hawk HPS pads.

I have very high aspirations for this car so far. I do not plan on putting the 1.8 in; I understand that would be a good upgrade for a number of reasons, but I'm very fond of the engine that is in it. I plan on seeing north of 210hp so far, and hopefully in time for summer. As I understand it, my rear end is the weakest link in the max power equation so far, and I will seek to replace it with a more appropriate differential.. probably when I need to, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, it seems I have spoken enough about myself for now. I do sincerely look forward to getting to know everyone and showing off my work. This will not be my DD while I do my work, so I can take my time thankfully. I'll take some pictures along the way of course- Who doesn't love pictures?

(I went back to the daisy wheels. I like em better)

I am inclined to believe you Girz0r. I went through the spool thread, and a clear trend of the 1.8 VVT engines making ample boost at low rpms was pretty apparent. I also dug through Muoto's build thread, and was quite inspired.

I will re-evaluate my 1.6 decision. I'm not so against swapping the engine for the works sake, I just like the engine that is in the car now. I've really run it very hard since I bought it, and I suppose I've become sentimental about it.

I have the benefit of time here; I discovered that some hack injected spray foam into the corners of the rocker panels to cover up some holes. The damage is nothing compared to my previous experience with bodywork, which was with Honda, however it will keep my spare time occupied for a few weeks.
