The long nose also fails due to improper torque when tightening it after a timing belt replacement. Thats what happened with my 96. The keyway had chewed up the crank. Ended up welding it and trading it in at the dealership.

Its true there's problem motors out there, but out of 100 early 1.6 motors how many get crank wobble? If I had it to do over again I probably would have went for a 1.8 motor, but I wouldn't say the 1.6 is a sure timebomb. Having 3 of them fail is just user error or super bad luck. Both which aren't the norm. |
