The long nose also fails due to improper torque when tightening it after a timing belt replacement. Thats what happened with my 96. The keyway had chewed up the crank. Ended up welding it and trading it in at the dealership.

Did you not torque it down enough? Or too much? I think spec is like 120+ftlbs

Mine started wobbling because the bolt had come loose after 25k. My crank was fine, just the pulleys were off. Replaced them and it ran boosted for another 10k fine.

Its true there's problem motors out there, but out of 100 early 1.6 motors how many get crank wobble? If I had it to do over again I probably would have went for a 1.8 motor, but I wouldn't say the 1.6 is a sure timebomb. Having 3 of them fail is just user error or super bad luck. Both which aren't the norm.

Vash, I figured you were just being a wiseguy, but I'm not at all saying to stay away from the 1.6's. After all, my car has a SNC 1.6L. I'm just saying, if you can wait patiently for a deal on a 1.8, it's worth it IMO. That extra cash you shell out for the 1.8 would probably have otherwise gone to swap in a 1.8 rear, so why not get a few extra horsetorques as a bonus? If you can't wait or find a nice 1.6L car, regardless of which crank, by all means go for it. Just my :2cents:
