Howdy! 90 White beater 91 Red ITA Racer
Hi I'm Joel (Kimba is the name of the white car). I bought the '90 because I wanted to have a Miata on the street (been racing one for 2 years in ITA) and it was cheap. I have hopes of eventually turbo-ing it but for now I'm just fixing issues. So far I have replaced the master cylinder, one caliper and the front brake pads. The rotors were pretty rusty when I got it so it was pretty scary stopping the thing. I drove it around for a while dragging the brakes and eventually the rotors cleaned up. In addition to the brakes, I buffed out the paint and laced on a leather steering wheel cover (Pep Boys- not bad). To wake it up a little, I advanced the timing slightly and installed the Racing Beat intake that came with the race car that I never used (I have the ISC unit).
Near future plans for the white lion are centered around new bushings (a combo of rubber and urethane) and a stiffer front sway bar (it's a little loose). During all this I am also working on the race car. I'm installing Delrin bushings, softening up the rear springs a bit, installing a tunnel notch to improve seating position, installing my new AIM lap timer and other pre season race prep. We'll need to do a full alignment and weigh the car following all of this suspension work. I live just South of Baltimore and would be interested in getting together with other Miata folks in the area to wrench, bullshit and drink beer. |
