Default Hello from Leeds UK

Hi Everyone
I'll be honest from the start. I'm into racing classic mini's in sprint and hill climb. I have just parted out my racer, a mini with a 220bhp Vauxhall C20XE engine in it. To be fair there isn't much mini left but the surround keeps the wind and rain off.

My wife drives a classic mini with a 1.3 Suzuki Swift GTI engine installed. This one is a totally stock looking mini and you wouldn't know to look at it what is under the bonnet. The Corsa driving local traffic light racers know to give this little car a miss as its spanked most of them, and with my missus driving.

So why have i signed up to this forum? I'm looking to do another project using an MX5 as........dare i say a doner car. There i said it and i'm not sure if saying this makes me the devil in your eye's?

Its going to be a fully space framed silhouette racer, front engined, rear wheel drive with a boosted 1.8 MX5 engine, gearbox and front running gear.

Am i still welcome of should i get my coat now? :P

As long as your donor car has a crappy body, you are not the devil.

If you can't use the search button, and ask questions about how to slam your miata and add a style bar you are the devil.

If you do not like cats (feline, not automotive) you are the devil.

Post pics of your cats, and the shell you plan on using for the transplant.

Lol. Your attempt at humor was a bit awkwardly worded.

Paul,
You are certainly welcome here! We have quite a few MX5 powered tube frame cars on this forum and always appreciate seeing a few more. We have several Lotus Seven clones, something called a Bauer Catfish, and a few Exocet builds currently on the forum, as well as a few interchanges/upgrades made within stock bodied cars such as the Ford Fiesta and Escort/Mazda 323 platform.

We are heavy on the engineering/fabrication/racetrack content and that is interspersed with a bit of lighthearted lockerroom humor and a few inside jokes (like posting pictures of cats). We make fun of ourselves for driving "hairdresser's cars" but take performance and reliability seriously. Many here are electrical or mechanical engineers, fabricators, or racers and we generally value function over style. Most of the recommendations you will see are based in years and years of trial and error or methodical testing.

Starting out, the best places to learn about the platform's inherent strengths and weaknesses are in the DIY FAQ, the "stickys" at the top of each section, and reading through some of the hundreds of build threads to see where others have prospered or failed. Sometimes seeing someone burn their hand on a hot stove is enough motivation for us not to touch it ourselves.

Again, welcome to the forum, and please post pictures of your previous car builds and modifications. We are car enthusiasts and DIY enthusiasts at heart and we love pictures.

He asked if what he was doing made him the devil in our eyes... I just responded with his own wording

I'm looking forward to seeing it. I work for DePuy here in the states, I understand we have a branch in Leeds.

There is branch of Depuy in Morley in Leeds, something to do with medical isn't it?

I obviously can't find any other place to put this so i'll stick it here if there is another place please let me know. It is a very long evolution build thread of my last racer. There might be a few video's where some......ahem......robust language might creep in.

project Stella racing - 16v Mini Club Forums

Also where would i put a build diary for my Mazda engined build? I will be doing one already on our own 16vmini club forum.

Yes, orthopaedics. Just start a thread in the build threads section.
We are totally fine with robust language.
