Hi. Finally creating an account now so that I can attempt to make stupid jokes and eventually ask stupid questions.

I've daily'd my miata for several years now, bought it with 108K miles and currently at 160k. Changed the water pump/timing belt/stuff back around 120k miles as preventative maintenance. Also random stuff like valve cover gasket, speedo wire repair, fluids, etc. I've done the brakes on it a few times but overall it has been the most reliable car I've ever owned.

Current Mods:
NB Tokico Illuminas with eibach springs (which I think are too soft, but it rides alright).
Racing beat front sway bar
Hard Dog roll bar
hitch
CSF aluminum radiator
Replaced both upper and lower front control arms recently when I installed the illuminas, though I keep battling this "loose" front end feeling over almost any sized pothole or bump. It's like the bolts aren't tight enough but they definitely are. Had a local tire shop with a miata guy set it to the FM alignment specs.

Replaced the torn original tan seats with much better condition black seats out of a later year NB. Two tone interior life.
Replaced the convertible top last summer after the windshield fell in. Balled out with a Robbins zippered defroster/glass canvas top. Super nice quality.
Over the winter I attempted to wrap it with KPMF Gloss Green wrap due to clearcoat failing on much of the body. Wrapping is either 100000 times more difficult then it looks on youtube, or else the wrap I chose is just super hard to work with/the cold ambient temperature in my garage encumbered me. It was probably me. Overall it looks ok from about 20 feet away, you get closer and you see the lines/creases/mess ups. Oh well, it is what it is.

Recently got a sick F150 that is actually a very similar color to the miata's green, so now with multiple vehicles I want to start the process of turboing my miata without having it be my only vehicle.

I also am into mountain biking, and usually show up to the trails with the most ridiculous setup. This is one of the reasons for the truck, as the miata truthfully is not a good vehicle for transporting bicycles.

My general plan is to first compression test to verify no major problems, then get a megasquirt setup running on the still N/A stock vvt engine with new injectors and change the clutch out while beginning to collect other parts. Currently leaning towards the kraken manifold/dp/exhaust setup, but I have also seen the MKturbo setup on here as well. Unsure of what turbo to go with, though I gather the 6258 EFR would be a very good (expensive/top tier) turbo to first start off with. Obviously I'm gonna be a cheapass where I can but I do want to only buy parts once.

Realistically I'm unsure how much power I would really be shooting for. I've ridden in some fast cars but I haven't ever experienced a turbo miata. I know it doesn't take much power to make these cars pretty quick. I'm not trying to rebuild my engine beforehand as it has been running great for years. I'm unsure what a "safe" number that is streetable and fun while being reliable without building the engine is (perhaps around 240/250 hp?).

What I do know is that the 2001 special editions are great candidates for a turbo build due to the trans/diff/sport brakes/vvt and of course the better headlights.

Welcome.

The limits of the stock block are about 225ft/lbs of torque. Anything above that and you are possibly on borrowed time. Usually horsepower wise you are safe in the 220-250whp range. To get there properly and reliably it is between $3500-4500 depending on how much time you want to spend doing with with waiting for used parts and such. To go from 225whp to 300whp you are going to north of $10k in costs. It is a big jump.
