noob questions
Hi guys,
i have been on this forum for a while now. Mostly lurking and reading. I have never dealt with a turbo system before and figured that this would be the best location on the forum for some easy questions. I have slowly gotten my miata to a point where i feel that i am ready to add that turbo that i so sorely want.
At the moment i have about $2000 to spare.
I already have a GM IAT sensor, and electronic boost controller kit from DIY Autotune. I also have a boost gauge. Everything else that i have done is listed in my sig.
I am looking at buying begi's shanghi s turbo system with the following options...
-bypass valve
-oil pan drill and tap
-mild steel separate gasses downpipe
-ceramic coating on the manifold
-wb o2 bung
with this i was going to order a 3 source vacuum fitting for the wg, map, and boost gauge
will this get me started out, running 5psi?
what other odds and ends am i missing?
would i benefit in the future by splurging on extras like stainless steel dp, braided lines, or heat shielding?
my future goals include...
-larger injectors 460 or bigger
-ebay intercooler kit
to run 10-12 psi.
Would it be possible for me to easily switch to an external WG setup in the future with this kit?
Thanks for helping me with my shopping list.

That should get you going. You can add the rest later. I made my own heat shield. I don't know what they charge for one, but it is a good idea.
Mild steel DP is fine. I mean, what do you want, a lifetime DP or a 5+ year DP?
Some would argue for braided right off the bat. Again, I didn't but was careful with routing and protecting lines from heat. I also slid some spare 5/8" silicone lines over my water lines for extra abrasion and heat protection.

thanks guys,
the heat shield is $89... I know that i can beat that price if i do it my self, but the quality would probably suck.
I like that trick with the coolant line inside another line, i think i will try that. This will definitely leave me with more money to put toward an intercooler or injectors.
BTW: Stein, how do you like your 600cc injectors? How much did they set you back?
