Hello.

After lurking for nearly four years, I guess it's time to make an introduction thread. Name is Corey, obviously. I currently own a 2001 Special Edition. I've also owned a '99 Sport and a '04 MSM. I purchased the car from an older gentleman who had it since essentially new (~2000 miles). He kept it completely stock except for a JRSC kit, header and a sweet grill (sarcasm intended -- I've yet to remove it as it's scuffed the paint some on the bumper where it rests).

After having the car for an afternoon I ordered wheels/tires, coilovers, and a roll bar. I also bought a BRG hardtop off a local 01SE for sale (trashed other than the hardtop) and removed the soft top. It currently sits at that point while I decide if I want to swap the supercharger for a turbo setup or do a KL-swap. I've also started collecting a black interior to swap out the tan.

That's a sharp car. Love the BRG.

Clean car. Time for some man levels of boost though. KLZE is fucking awesome, but that will be some serious work.

supercooper 05-29-2013 11:16 PM

Very cool, car looks great! Welcome!

viperormiata 05-29-2013 11:29 PM

Nice car. Welcome, noob.

Only 2000 miles when you got it?! Wow!

Car looks great. You have done good things to it so far.

Thank you. I guess it's not an easy swap, but the adapter plate and flywheel adapter already exist and are easy enough to get our hands on. Mounts are also easy enough on either a hacked up subframe or mountless v8 tubular setup. Wiring on the other hand...

I wish. It had 2000 miles when the guy I purchased it from bought it. He bought it after a company bought it for their employees to enjoy for a summer and never did anything with it.

KL wiring is CAKE if you go Megasquirt. It looks daunting in stock form because there's SO MANY sensors that are just completely unnecessary.

There's hardly anything more to it than a BP. If you are capable of pinning connectors, you can build a KL engine harness in a day.

But just to keep the peace, turbo the BP. The way to do it is:

Built BP bottom end with 8.6:1 pistons.
VVT head
Absurdflow or ARTech custom manifold
Borg Warner EFR
MS3x or MS3Pro

Anything else will get you ridiculed.

There's your friendly n00b tip of the day. :)

We shall see. I hate wiring. HATE.

Thanks for the shopping list. ;)

I've already for the head and a bottom end to build. Just not sure I actually want to go that way. Btw, this is coreyhendo from PT and vwnomore from the other Miata boards. :x

Nah, same motor, just haven't had the time or desire to build the new motor yet.
