I is new....

Bought a 1990 NA from a dealership in St.Clair Mo. and evidently was a car from a member here. Cartech turbo, hard top, roll bar, tokico's, panasports etc.
Even has the Coil on plug mod...which admittedly I don't know jack about. I'm completely foreign to anything pre OB2 so will be asking a bunch of questions. I'm from Illinois near St.Louis, want to do either solo or Autox. I just need this car to be a bit quicker to match my STI at least. Currently 6.5psi and it doesn't feel even as fast as a stock one. Great looking car though.

Welcome.

Pictures would greatly help us, especially of the engine bay so we can tell you how wrong the previous owner was.

iamtimsweet 07-09-2012 02:11 AM

Nice....I'll put them up in a bit http://www.flickr.com/photos/8195201...in/photostream

viperormiata 07-09-2012 02:12 AM

Cartech turbo kit @ 6psi is not likely to be making 160hp. That kit is near ancient and if the fueling is untouched, it's even more ancient. However, it will last forever.

Post lots of pics. It sounds like the rest car is well put together.

Welcome.

this doesn't look to be working too well. I'm not used to posting pics like this, damn flickr sucks.

iamtimsweet 07-09-2012 02:18 AM

I'm running 360 to the tires in my STI. 23psi on e85. I'd love to learn about the engine managements and what would be the best for my combo. This power ain't doing it for me... :)

Not another subaru owner...

Welcome, car actually looks legit..

iamtimsweet 07-09-2012 02:56 AM

Yeah, Selling everything I have for subaru including my STI. Just got this 90 and am almost annoyed with the drivability with my STI so got something else to put my wallet into.

iamtimsweet 07-09-2012 02:57 AM

I've also got a saabaru with an STI built block for when it gets slippery.

triple88a 07-09-2012 04:12 AM

Man thats one interesting heat shield. Where are those bolts bolted to? It almost looks like they are using the bolts that go in the head.

rleete 07-09-2012 05:52 AM

Yeah, heat shield is interesting. Gonna need a new radiator soon.

really really really really old BEGi kit.

what's wrong with bolting a heatshield to the head and blocking the heat radiation from #1/2?

For a second there it looked like it was using really long studs as part of the exhaust studs as the reason why i was a bit confused.

iamtimsweet 07-09-2012 11:10 AM

It is an... Um...interesting setup but it does have stock exhaust on it. As soon as I get exhaust I'm going to wrap the hot side. Inter cooler is ancient too and beat up. May go air to water from Frozen boost. Otherwise I have done a great deal of research but not familiar with pre OBD2 cars running boost. Time will tell.

Mike17543 07-09-2012 11:16 AM

congrats on your new toy !

iamtimsweet 07-09-2012 11:22 AM

The car was from NoMiezMX5 as I just found the old for sale thread.

So you want to go from a highly efficient simple FMIC, to a "comlex" unefficient air/water setup?

so easy it hurts.

iamtimsweet 07-09-2012 11:43 AM

I just want to make this kit the most efficient possible. I also have a lot of friends running air to water which are drag racers and autox guys. Air to water has it's place and just gets a bad rap. Due to the internet. Am also looking to see hoe super simple these are to tune.

Braineack 07-09-2012 11:45 AM

no, due to it's inefficincy. the internet has just helped spread the truth.

water/air is great, when you have a 24x24" box sitting on your passenger seat.

iamtimsweet 07-09-2012 11:57 AM

OK, well, like I said I have experience with them. Actually I have experience with both. So anyway I'm running 6psi and have a kink in the inlet pipe from the intercooler. So I need to fix that, fix some ginormeous oil leaks and some exhaust leaks too. Got plenty to do. It looks good sitting in the driveway though.

Miater 07-09-2012 12:54 PM

Welcome. Now, comply!

pusha 07-09-2012 01:12 PM

he gay

iamtimsweet 07-09-2012 07:06 PM

Adjusted the throttle cable. Omg what a difference. Before it was way slow. I left the gas station earlier and it went sideways on me. First drive after adjusting the cable. That's more like it.

pusha 07-09-2012 07:14 PM

sideways with a CarTech kit?

OMG

iamtimsweet 07-09-2012 07:33 PM

I know right? Regardless of the kit it still is working obviously. it still is an IHI turbo RHB5 so it spins pretty good under any throttle. Now just need Omar. Moar I tell ya.
