Just saying Hi
Hello, figured I should introduce myself. I recently bought the fourth Miata (1994) that I have owned (previous 92,97,2003). I paid 2K, and I think i got a decent deal. Chassis and engine are in good shape (140K), body above average for a 20 year old car, and the top was swiss cheese.
The ultimate goal for the car is to be a fun toy that I can track without worrying about bringing it home on a trailer after rubbing a tire wall. While I love my Lotus Elise, I am not at a point where I am ok with wrecking it. I have extensive track experience in my past at Summit Point where I used to instruct. I have tracked 2nd gen MR2, 3rd gen RX-7, and 240z. I have spent the last two weeks cleaning it up so it looks presentable on the street. In addition, I have been reading everything on this and other forums. Performance improvements will be done in following order to ultimately get to FM turbo. I will be tuning the MS3 as I go along, I am really looking forward to that, wish we had tools like that 15 years ago. The old Power FC we used in the RX7 just does not compare… Wideband - check MS3 from Reverent - check CAN board that will connect the wideband to the MS3 - check COPs Rx-8 injectors exhintake mod - ? Sourced a cam at junkyard, still not sure if worth the trouble Turbo Install A colleague and I have a challenge who can hit the street first, my Miata with a turbo, or his home-built trike. Sounds familiar. Welcome

Sounds like fun, and like you have a good plan. Welcome, post up some pics.

You sound like you will be successful. It's difficult, but definitely not impossible, to build a reliable turbo track car.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Here is a picture from the good side (repainted wheels).
I received my MS3 from Reverant on Friday, and got it and the CAN wideband module hooked up Saturday morning. Played around the rest of the weekend, and actually have a pretty decent tune. Still running a bit rich in some of the areas that I have a tough time staying in when tuning, but overall runs real nice. I don't care what anyone says about Reverant, he has great customer service, got me my MS3 in less than 10 days, pretty amazing. The car has 140K on it, and I am not sure when (if?) timing belt was replaced, I have a nice oil leak in back of engine, and a suspicious squeal at higher RPM, so I think next step is a new belt and pulley before going further. |
