Let me introduce myself....

Goodmorning miataturbo.net!! Just stopping in to introduce myself. My name is Ryan I live in Massachusetts in the wonderful city of new Bedford. I am coming over from ka-t.org and venturing onto new projects. I used to have a 1991 240sx that I planned on turboing. I had a sc61 .63 backside turbo, excessive intake and manifold. All of that was sold along with the car after losing my job. I wanted to get back into the 240 scene but finding a clean chassis is very difficult at a resonable price. Soooooooooo I started looking around the junkyards and craigslist and I stumbled onto the miata. Cheap RWD 2 seater with a lot of aftermarket. Sorry for the ranting. Well I have been searching and reading through the stickies and don't really have any questions. I know a thing or two about cars and turbocharging vehicles. Any sugestions or comments are welcomed!!

Welcome.

I'm not sure what engine management options there were for the Nissan, but rest assured it's not as easy for us as it is for most of the Honda crowd. I would definitely look into doing a MS first...and then adding your bigger injectors, clutch, and finally turbo. This order of operations works...period.

Are you looking to pick up a car, or already bought one?

If you haven't found one yet there are some tips on picking your base starter that can make life easier later regarding drivetrain, brakes, and engine management.

Read up on the useful saved threads and have fun.

Basic Maintanance and simply mods do wonders on miatas too...new shocks, fresh clutches, upgraded motor and diff mounts etc.

For the Nissan crowd there are megasquirt, Jim wolf reflashes, calum rt ( really good option), aem ....
I have not purchased a vehicle yet. I was looking into the na model since my funds are low.
What exactly is "ms" as stated above? There are a lot of abreviations throughout this website that are confusing but I'm sure I will figure it out.

I am actually wondering if anyone has used aem for tuning? I have heard of using a used aem unit from say a Honda and just cutting the ecu connector out of a Honda and splicing it into a miata harness? There has been peoplethatndid this with 240's and it saves a lot of money. You can get a used aem for a Honda cheap a lot vealer then brand new or even a used unit for a Nissan....

MS = MegaSquirt

Not sure on the AEM...check the engine management sub-forums.

If looking for an NA madel get a 94-95 with a TorSen already in it.

These years have the 1.8L motor (marginal power advantage), larger brakes and sways, and up until 95 was pre-ODB I believe. Mine's a '92 so I just slapped a standalone on it. But later years you have to check for inspection purposes.

Ryan987 11-04-2009 10:14 AM

Yeah my state does not do any testing on 95> vehicles it's all safety checks for inspection. Torsen is the LSD correct I remember reading that. I had a full longblock build planned for my 240 and I want to do the same with this build. I plan on getting a spare engine to build and then drop in when it's complete while I drive the car and fix/replace bushings, brakes, electrical problems, and so on... I won't be running a/c. Is there a sticky on emission removal? I also see a hose connectedfrom the valve cover to the intake manifold on a lot of turbo builds. Wouldn't this pressurize the head/block?

RotorNutFD3S 11-04-2009 10:20 AM

It does not. It's a really good idea to run the 323GTX PCV valve (part# E301-13-890A), which was designed for boosted applications. It works very well.

So can anyone post a link to a buyers guide thread on purchasing a miata. Is there any specifics I should look for when searching for my first miata?

Miata Garage Buying a Miata

Not all inclusive, but pretty good.

Hey thanks for all the replies. I plan on staying a while and learning a thing or two. If anyone has a link to some t3 based builds I would be extremaly happy! Also is there a dyno section. Ka-t.org has a section where members post all there dyno results along with pictures of there dyno graphs/afr graphs this is very helpful when starting or upgrading your builds. It allows people to compair mods to see what they produce on different setup.

Ryan987 11-05-2009 08:00 PM

I've been searchingday to find any info on t3 based builds. I was thinking a gt3076 would be amazing in a miata and could only find one thread in the engine build section. Anyone have experience with this turbo? Also I had initially intendedon using a jgs exhaust manifold on my 240sx and I know they make one for the 1.8 miatas sonyeah does anyone use this product?
