Lurker finally coming out of the shadows

Hello everyone,

I'm Joseph in the Fox Valley area of Wisconsin. Currently working as a Storage and Data Center administrator for an international recreation company. I'm fairly competent when it comes to working on vehicles and excel at troubleshooting issues. Do most of my work on my current vehicle, an 03 SVT Focus.

I have been interested in turboing a Miata for a little over 1-2 years now. After researching and reading for sometime I made the decision to pick up a 2003 Base Miata with convience and sport packages in May this year. It is currently car #2 in my stable. I own a 2003 SVT Focus that is mildly tuned using remote tuning with an SCT scanner, larger throttle body, cat delete, and a few others minor modifications. I realized early on that anything more on the SVT would not be worth it to me as it is my DD through out the year.

This will be my first foray into boosting a vehicle, and look forward to the challenges that will arise in making this happen. Thankfully most of everything that could occur is already documented and I can properly prepare myself for those issues.

In comes the Miata. I'd like to make it a nicely done street machine for cruising around and hitting the twisties, maybe a few track days at Road America eventually.

Currently in the process of getting a MS3 from Revenant (timeframe is late September), and plan to do some N/A tuning with an MTX-L wideband, replace injectors with some ID750, or ID1000's, possible coolant reroute with change to earlier headgasket, and continue to tune on my Ubuntu 13.04 laptop for the next year. Eventually down the line I would like to get an FM2 no electronics kit and hope to get 200-240 HP. Standard maintenance is scheduled to be completed prior to adding the turbo. Coilovers, and RPF1's would be added onto the build shortly after the Turbo is installed.

Overall I look to spend approximately $7,000 on this project. I realize it could be done significantly cheaper, and my plan is subject to change. If and when a good deal occurs, or as my knowledge and comfort level with building my own DIY turbo grow, this plan may be modified. I believe it is a good starting point and a solid plan of action.

It's been a pleasure to learn so much from all the current and archived threads already, and I look forward to becoming a more active member of this community in the coming months.

Here is Tiny Tina when I got her from the lot. The front mounting license plate bracket has since been removed, and a set of Boss Frog double hoop roll bars have been installed.
