Default *Waves* Hi, I am a noob!

I am new to this forum, and if you see some really stupid questions somewhere, good chance is it is from me.

I know some basic stuff about my car, changing oil, fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, oxygen sensor, thermostat, injectors, etc. I have a service manual which is great and plan to use it for anything else I come across in the future. However, my 1996 manual doesn't help with the turbo aspect. :gah:

So, here is what I have currently, on the way, and trying to work with: Currently I have Jackson Racing Headers, Test pipe, 2.5" Borla Exhaust that is Cat-back (or should I say test-pipe back lol?), NGK wires and plugs, Green Brand performance air filter, and 4 wire NTK oxygen sensors. Have on the way: a JSPEC T3 flange Garrett turbo M24, with .64 A/R for turbine, and .60 for the compressor. It is internally wastegated so I need to figure out how to bypass that for use of an external. What I have but not installed but have: fidanza 8 lbs. flywheel and Bully Stage III clutch.

What I plan on getting before turboing: 6 speed transmission, intercooler, piping, possibly a new radiator, JGS exhaust manifold, an external wastegate for the JGS exhaust manifold, downpipe (not sure what to use, maybe the FM elbow and DP but that seems a bit high in price) and a Megasquirt which I will be getting shortly but have no idea how to setup, thus why I am here. Plans for future: 99-00 head, new pistons maybe 1mm bigger (i don't want to kill my gas mileage all the time on a daily driver ), new H-beam rods and such, new intake manifold (performance type obvioubly, but longer down the road), and 3" exhaust would be nice too. Probably some other random stuff too, but that is where I am at now.

So, when I ask something, it is because I have no idea, but once I catch on things should get better and I can become a contributing member hopefully. My service manual and a 6 speed transmission factory training manual are all I have to help me besides forums. When I get a chance someday I want to make a pdf out of the 6 speed manual because it is pretty much "how to rebuild and fix a 6 speed for idiots" with a picture and documentation of EVERYTHING.

I have no idea how to do that stuff and looking at it I could do it. I was proud to be able to get my hands on it and would like to share it with you all sometime. Probably not till May though when my life slows down a bit. Also, I am 18, but not stupid. I take care of my stuff, have a wonderful girlfriend, I am a shift manager at a Taco Bell/ KFC. (youngest manager to date ) and I love my car very much. When I do something, I try to do it right the first time, and give it my all. Anyone that can help me figure out my entire turbo project would be very much appreciated, and I would love to come see some of you and your cars this summer and go on some cruises, so if everyone can help me get my setup done by the beginning of june, I want to do some summer cruising will all of you. Turbo style. And thanks in advance for all the help. There is going to be a lot I need.

If you put that into paragraphs people might actually read it.
Welcome.

I made a signature, but it doesn't show up for some reason. I put a picture in and saved it.

Welcome Chris; I did indeed read all. FWIW, I think you're going at this project the right way. Many guys in this forum who are knowledgeable and willing to help. I also have a 96 with a T3 turbo kit.

Do you see the post from cjernigan above?; well, he's not only one of the mods but an MS guru to boot and one of the nicest guys also

BTW, I didn't see the stupid questions so I'm still waiting

Please put your location in the sig so other members close to you may also be able to assist you.

p.s. congrats on becoming the youngest shift manager!

You can weld the WG flap shut on that internal gate, not a big deal. You don't absolutely need the 6 spd, you can put down all kinds of power on a stock 5 spd. You can get a God Speed radiator shipped for $160 through this forums' group buy. The ETD shorty manifold is better than the JGS and doesn't cost much more. You'll need a custom downpipe no matter which one you use.

Read all of the FAQ and howto links in my sig. They are your new bible accompanied by the search button.

Gracias. Ahora entendi. Under the "Avatar" and not under the "sig" comment. I've been inviting new members to put their location under their sig and not their avatar.

My English skills are not too advanced! :

So, as cjernigan said, I should get the tubular exhaust manifold from ETD? It is going to cost me 450 for the manifold, 50 for the wastegate port, and 25 to ship it, 525, is that really worth it? Is an external wastegate the best way to go if I want to be able to run low or high boost whenever I choose? What would be my best option for a custom downpipe then? I want to be able to have two different maps for a megasquirt to run for my car, one for performance, and one for gas mileage to be good.

Truthfully, I would wait for a used mani and DP to come up for sale here. Or buy the BEGI S kit and get boosting real fast like.
The ETD mani looks awesome and i'm sure it flows great but when it comes to budget building there are a few cheaper options. I think a brand new mani from BEGI is like 380 plus shipping and then you can get a S style downpipe from them that will bolt right up pretty cheaply
bellengineering.net they are a forum sponsor as well.

About the two different maps for performance/economy.
The way MS works, you tune the fuel map accord to RPM and MAP. So when you're cruising you tune it for economy but when you're getting on it you set the table up for the appropriate AFRs. The performance/economy parts of the map are just in different areas is all, no need for two different tables. Unless you want a table for 93 octane and another for 110 or one for high boost and another for low boost.

So as long as I know the values for performance and economy for gas I can just change them even while I am driving from my laptop? I want to go with the best for exhaust manifold and downpipe, not something I want to waste even more on later if it cracks, and not have the best flow from. I will wait for an ETD exhaust manifold then, not sure what to do about downpipe though.
