Hi ms3monte, enjoy your stay :)

Are you looking for a dedicated track car or a street driven car that will also be tracked? If you plan on driving the car a lot then you may want to look into a second generation car (NB). If not, I'd go with a first gen NA8 (NA is first gen, NA6 is the 89'-93' 1.6L and NA8 is the 94'-97' 1.8L), the difference being the NA8 has the bigger engine, better brakes, etc. If you live in or plan on living somewhere that requires emissions checks then you'd want to look for 94'/95' cars because there OBD1. If you plan on doing suspension, brake, etc. work then you kinda negate most of the downsides of a NA6 car, except of course the extra .2L of displacement.

i plan on making it a dedicated track car i like the first generation and would prefer the NA6 due to price i will be doing complete internals bottom up and will be installing aftermarket brake and suspension kits thanks for the info was defiantly helpful

is it possible to do a swap and drop the 1.8 in place of the 1.6 or is the fabrication not worth the gain if i come across a shell of an older NA6 and need to purchase a motor

gearhead_318 09-20-2011 12:59 AM

Ya, you can. It'd be worth it to check out cars for sale in the classifieds here because a lot of them have a lot of the work you are panning to do already, for cheap. Also, you need to swap out the rear differential on a NA6 for one from a NA8 because there made of glass.

thanks as for motors do you know anything about how trackspeed engineering built motors are it seems for the price i can send away and have it built to my specs while i finish the body suspension and brakes and have the whole car done basically by next spring /summer

gearhead_318 09-20-2011 01:28 AM

I don't, but there are undoubtedly some users here who do.

ms3monte 09-20-2011 01:36 AM

hey chris where do you track your car around here other then englishtown i have been trying to find more local tracks but have been having trouble

chriscar 09-20-2011 02:36 PM

Haven't tracked the Miata, other than AutoX at the Coliseum, which they just repaved. I may try and get out there in the next few weeks. I've driven the SE-R (well, actually multiple SE-R's and NX2000's over the years) on a bunch of tracks, Lime Rock, Pocono, Watkins Glen, Nelson Ledges, and Bridgehampton way back in the day before they closed it. I haven't made it down to NJMP in Millville NJ yet. I'm heading up to Watkins Glen at the end of the month, but haven't decided if I'm running or watching yet.

i might run my speed3 at the coliseum in the next few weeks just to see how it does but im hoping to find a good miata soon so i can enjoy driving on track and not beat on my dd

chriscar 09-20-2011 02:44 PM

I'm pretty excited that they repaved the lot, it was really bad.... 10 years ago! If I go, it'll be either 10/9 or 10/15. Maybe we'll see each other.
