Hi guys!

I want to introduce myself after lurking for a long time and finally registering before **** gets serious

My name is Max, I'm 25 and live near Frankfurt, Germany. I love my cars, they are my only hobby I study mechanical engineering after working for three years at a mazda dealer and becoming best mechanic 2013 in my region Yeah, wasn't that hard, i guess it's all about being interested in the job you learn... I also just became a father seven month ago

Enough about me, my cars: I bought my first MX5, a mariner blue 91, almost four years ago, it was my first car and it is a rusty mess full off fiberglass "repairs" and expanding foam in the rockers. I did what every broke young guy who thinks he bought a sports car does, lowered it and drove like a maniac After about a year i knew i had bought a shitty car which was never gonna pass the next inspection. So i gathered some money and bought another rusty piece of ****
So in early 2012 I got my 94 BRG NA8 in its complete stock glory with rusty rockers and rear wheel wells so crusty you could rip pieces out of it... But the rest of the car was in acceptable shape and I had big plans anyway so I bought it for not a lot of money from a turkish fella. The big plans included mostly fender flares which are fairly rare in germany because it's not easy to get them inspected and street legal. I took the sawzall to my precious new car anyway without having a clou how this will become street legal But in the end everything went better than expected and i was one of a very few with flares on german roads and felt great
This is summer 2014 with a magnaflow muffler which i sold two weeks after because i couldn't live with the ricer sounds

Now, turbotime! After my daughter was born, we moved and i got a garage space in a garage my father in law didn't need. This was the first time i had a roof over one of my cars and of course meant I need to strip it apart and start a build So I did some very optimistic calculations, worked the whole summer vacation full time at my old work and saved all the money to go turbo This is where you guys and this beautiful forum enter the stage I learned very fast that doing a cheap and ghetto turbo job will be not in my budget and decided to do it right the first time. I will start a build thread soon and will write about my plans so you can rant about it and insult me

This is where I'm at now, the car is completely in pieces, I have most of my research and parts gathering done and will put it together soon.

Welcome, Good start so far. Interesting how fender flares wont pass inspection. Whats the logic behind that?

Most likely not TUV certified, which everything has to be in Germany to pass road inspection.

Your car looks fun and classic! Your car regulations sound more strict than in Norway. Glad you got it through, the flares look really good.

There are people on this forum that makes manifolds and downpipes for almost any turbo. Im going the TD04 route since they are so common here in north europe

Yes, they don't come with certification papers and everything you change on a car has to be inspected to be legal. It's not impossible, you just need to find a TUEV inspector who is intelligent enough to see that those flares don't hurt anyone and don't make the car dangerous. It's really annoying sometimes and can get very expensive fast but on the other hand it's good for safety. A lot of the ricer mods you see in the rest of the world are kept to a minimum in germany and I'm ok with that

Also, here is a picture of my daily driver



It's a 95 Subaru Libero with three zylindre rear engine and 4wd
It really is just my fun car to keep me happy while I fight the pain of not being able to drive the mx5.
We also have our family car which is a 96 Volvo 945 2.3ti. Sadly i don't have pictures of it, its stock except for a mbc to give daddy a little more pressure This one is also my first turbo car and gave me the confidence to do the mx5 build and also converted me to the dark side from N/A.
I also have a nice, really big storage barn where my other cars reside It belongs to my fathers business and is sadly 350km away in the middle of nowhere... There I still have my mariner 91 which will eventually be cured from all its rust and will be my wifes car. It's really in a shape where resurrecting it will be a really big pain in the *** but i just couldn't scrap my first mx
The last car of the "collection" of precious metal (or scrap like my father says ) is a yellow 94 Peugeot 205 cabriolet which i got as a present from my aunt, it was her first car. Will post pictures of them tomorrow!

Thank you! I don't know about it being more strict but I think it's more or less the same. I heard you are not allowed to modify newer cars at all? May be all rumors but i bet in the end it makes the streets safer...

I already have most of the turbo hardware together, going with a T28, HGP cast manifold and a custom 3" downpipe. Will post pictures later

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, some of us are actually nuts. We've got a lot of engineers on the forum and most people here are "do it yourself" guys for most of the work on their cars. There are a couple of regulars here from Deutschland as well. I used to live in Augsburg many moons ago.

Yeah, i don't take selfies while drinking beer too often I don't have a favorite brand, most german beer are quite tasty While working on the car I usually drink Radler, beer with lemonade, not sure how it's called. Mainly to calm the woman at home, she hates when I'm at the garage and even more when i return drunk
