21 year old college student building a canyon carver.
O hai there!
My name is tim. Im a college student from the los angeles area.
I study mechanical engineering at cal-state university northridge. I work as a manager at oreillys(woohoo, discounts...).
My miata story:
I come from the offroad world. Ever since I was about twelve I was riding dirt bikes and into offroad race trucks. I really got into fabrication in my early teens, by 16 I had completely built my own long travel suspension for my ranger out of scratch. This guy at school bought a little red miata, I didnt fit in it, but I wanted to drive it. I drove it around the school parking lot and was hooked.
I continued on to build a few more offroad trucks, 92 jeep cherokee, 92 cummins powered ram, 95 f-350, 1988 toyota pickup, and somewhere along the line I picked up a daily driver, a 2008 chevy colorado. But I moved further and further away from the desert where I grew up and closer to the city. In high school I had a few friends with cool old school JDM cars (76 corolla, datsun 510, etc...) and theyve all held a place in my heart.
In july of 2011 I decided I was going to save up some money and buy a miata. In mid january, I made it happen. I bought a 1995 miata, it had been neglected, I probably paid a little too much for it. But the car ran decent enough to make it from santa barbera to LA, had a brand new magnaflow cat, and had all his smog paperwork in line, so it was good enough for me.
Ever since then the car has been undergoing a transformation into a canyon carver/autox/track car. Really Im just trying to build something thats fast and fun in the corners. I've always been into racing, but in college its hard to build a car, and have enough money left over to race it too.
Im VERY function > form, and my car reflects that(or will, once Im done with it.)
