I am picking up a 1990 Miata from a buddy. It was a one owner car with 118k miles. The owner backed the left rear corner into something totaling the car. My buddy is going to fix the damage and sell me the car. The car runs great now, but I don't really want to deal with the short nosed crank issues so he is also swapping in a 99 motor for me.

I had planned to do a 250hp megasquirt controlled turbo system at the same time, but my truck got hit on Sunday on the way to my friends house to see the car. Now I'm not sure I can afford to do the whole build. I'll have to see how the insurance settlement turns out. For now I'll probably just be trolling the forums. Here are some pics of the car.

OMG. Original paint (still has the Mazda sticker on the front). What a shame. But, your gain, right?

Short nose crank is no big deal -- Locktite fix works great (over 40K on mine). Lots of life left in that motor at only 118K -- especially if the condition of the rest of the car (rear end damage excluded) is an indication of how it was treated. Might save you some money to skip the engine swap and buy turbo parts instead.

I would probably go that route, but I already have the 99 motor. I'll just sell the 90 motor to make some of my money back. I may come out on top with my truck getting wrecked, but I'm not counting on it.
