New to this forum

Decided to give this forum a shot because the guys on .net make my head hurt. Just finished rebuilding a 94 miata that I got with a blown motor. Did a ps depower and a small tuck along with deleting the evap/charcoal system. Plan to finish restoring a few things then getting an lsd and start piecing together a turbo kit.

Enginerd 04-06-2015 10:04 PM

what's a small tuck? i don't think i'll like the answer.

axt3365 04-07-2015 06:15 AM

Probably not lol. Charcoal and evap delete, and I got a jdm motor to replace the blown one, so no EGR. Just routed the stock harness so it's more hidden (didn't cut anything). Other than that it's unmolested. I still have the charcoal can and evap system laying around in case it needs to be reinstalled.

I am noticing some gas seeping past the fuel pump lock ring, I've got a new one ordered but I assume it's doing this from the delete seeing as there is no vent on the tank now. Any suggestions outside of reinstalling char/evap?

sixshooter 04-07-2015 07:07 AM

Don't block off the charcoal canister line coming from the tank. It will still need to vent to keep the tank from blowing up like a balloon.

Welcome to the forum. Put your location in your profile so it shows up under your screen name. Someone here is probably local to you and might be helpful.

Okay I will. Thank you for your help and not giving me the usual "put it back" answer.

sixshooter 04-07-2015 10:46 AM

I ran a rubber line from the canister location back alongside the steel fuel lines and just ended with it open back just before the diff so I wouldn't smell it in the cabin or worry about fumes igniting.

Enginerd 04-07-2015 12:22 PM

Unless it's required for emissions, just make sure it's still vented outside the cabin and trunk so you don't inhale or 'splode. I think I just left mine venting near the wheel well.

94 is a great year since you get the oil pressure gauge and lsd standard :) .

axt3365 04-07-2015 12:46 PM

I don't believe I have an lsd...my girl has a 95 m edition and I can FEEL the lsd. But I felt like I was one wheel wonder-in on the first slide I did yesterday....do ALL 94's usually come with them?

I feel this thread heading for disaster.

Have you crashed your car yet?

People like you are why I hate forums.

Next time you tuck for you partner, use duct tape.

That's a robot.

100% of the time, 94's come with lsd's every time.

Well that's good to know, although the manuals state torsen was an available opt in 94...I'll check the vin to see what package it is. And I'm not a robot. I just can't stand a forum moderator who wants to start being an ass for no reason to someone who's literally made 4 posts.

Once again this is why I hate forums. Fuck off if you're going to be an ass and go back to your sad little life where you think you're better than other people just because you're a forum mod. Ban me. I don't care. I was asking for help and you've contributed nothing to that.

axt3365 04-08-2015 06:28 AM

It seems there is no way of knowing the option package from the vin? It did have power mirrors and power steering so I would assume it's an a package. Guess I'll go leave some rubber in a parking lot to see if it leaves one bacon strip or two...

SchmoozerJoe 04-08-2015 06:49 AM

You can always give Mazda a call and they'll decode your VIN number for you.

For the most part, this forum is for serious business. Talking about intentionally sliding your car (plus tuck jobs underhood, etc) will have some folks fearing the worst (and by worst, that'd be the typical swag-tastic Club Roadster Miata owner who pops over here to talk about mad drifts, etc.).

Once you learn how to communicate with the guys here, you'll find all sorts of great, performance oriented knowledge.

As with most forums, utilize the search features. If you've got a question, it's more than likely already been asked and answered prior to your arrival.

And finally, very cool with the whole '94 and '95 ownership between you and the GF.
Same situation here. I've got a '94... she is rocking a '95.

Welcome to the forum, just try not to be an eggplant.

sixshooter 04-08-2015 07:24 AM

Drifting gets no respect here, so it is best not to mention it. Most of us are dedicated to improving the acceleration, handling, and braking of the cars for use on the track, autocross, etc. Lap times are more important than hardparking around here so the non-functionally lowered cars get laughs.

Accept that is what this forum is about and you will be fine. If you aren't interested in those things then there are other forums that cater to other needs, but we would be happy to help you to improve your car if that is your desire.

axt3365 04-08-2015 07:46 AM

I understand guys, I'm not trying to build a "drift miata" simply because these cars were built to grip. That much is evident after driving one compared to my best friends s13. I only mentioned doing A, single, one, slide because that is the only time I've even floored this chassis at this point and it was literally just to see if one tire hooked up or two from a stop sign making a left turn. Only one wheel was spinning so I came to the conclusion that the diff was open. As far as the tuck job goes, I just can't stand clutter, so by rerouting and removing things that I deemed unnecessary for the car to go down the road made me smile a little bigger when I look under my hood versus developing a headache from the rats nest that was there.

Thanks schmoozer and sixshooter, you guys seem to be the type that this forum mainly consists of and full of the knowledge I hope to acquire when it comes to this chassis. I never thought I would be a miata owner but after driving my girls miata for the past year, I couldn't pass up the offer of a $300 roller with a super clean body from a coworker with a blown motor.
