I went about this a little backwards from most. There was this autocross class I wanted to run in and I went looking for a suitable car. The class is SoCal's California Street Touring, CST and the rules are prettymuch run whacha brung on TW 140 street tires. Yeah, gotta have lights and horn and wipers and such. But pretty unrestricted otherwise.

I originally decided on a local SSM turbo Miata which was going up for sale at the end of the 2013 season. But, damn, he crashed it and is now going to part it out. So not having much time to get ready for the 2014 I picked up a Craigslist car and am rapidly setting it up and getting it tuned.

It's a 92 dual purpose street/track car with a CARB legal Jackson supercharger, Flyin' Miata suspension, Torsen, and some smallish track wheels/tires. Not the parts list I'd choose, but it's a fair start.

Underway is more power, more wheel/tire, lighter weight and some suspension tweaking. Should be fun trying to get it competitive in a very tough and well populated class.

.

Welcome WAM! Get some pics up in here! We love pics, even if it is a S/C car

I'm interested in the CST class as I've never heard of it. What governing body does your AutoX group follow? I found California Street Mod & California Street Tire mentioned re: SCCA, is this just a SoCal thing?

Naw, not ready for pictures yet. Just imagine a tan top on a black 92. Good enough for now.

Yes, CST is a CalClub regional class. We run all SCCA classes but add a few of our own. CST is one of the top one or two in turn out. Which is why I chose it.

Other regions often have their own catch-all class, but most of those allow R compounds. We call ours California Street Mod. California Street Touring is identical except TW>140 street tires only. For some reason this makes it very popular.
