New guy

Hello all, I joined mainly because a close friend that is a member (full_tilt) and some of the interesting threads he has shown me, also some of the humorous antics/shenanigans that have taken place.

Now I must admit that... no I do not own a mazda.. But I am a big automotive/electronics enthusiast and I am always trying to learn more about as wide of a variety of cars as possible.

One of my cars a turbocharged 97 civic coupe, but before you judge.. please realize that I am not a typical know nothing retarded stereotypical honda kid.. in fact I probably hate more honda owners than im sure most of you do.

I do all my own work and have a knowledge of tuning beyond the average person as well as a fair amount of skill with most electronics.

I hope to be able to share some knowledge as well as laughs with what im told is the more level headed miata community.

Welcome. What's the setup on your civic? Any pictures?

Tw34k 11-08-2009 09:30 PM

Yea i got a bunch of pic's, ill try and post a few as well as a few of my other vehicles.

The setup is a bit of a story, I bought the car and found that it had a spun bearing the next day.. so i did its first swap within a week after buying it and a few months later was on my way to boosting it. Afterward i decided to do a build it, took my time and was very happy with the way the motor was coming together until break in.. Within about 40 miles of easy driving to set the rings the #1 sleeve dropped and caused a bit of damage. Turns out the one machine shop i thought i could trust in town failed me in a big way. So I put a stock engine back in the car and am running it on 6 psi as of right now but will soon turn it up to about 230 whp which is roughly the safe amount before i start snapping rods. Im very meticulous in my work and always go the extra mile. you would not believe the extent ive gone to get my wire harness just the way i like it.

Ill get together a set of pics and give a rundown of the setup along with them

Boosted D series are becoming so common/popular nowadays.

I see more and more built d series with ginormous turbo's at the track lately. I love how easy/simple the engine is to work on.

Fireindc 11-08-2009 10:23 PM

Clean civic, and I'm sure quite fun with 230whp. Shame on the built motor, id be pissed.

Tw34k 11-08-2009 10:26 PM

wow! I was kinda avoiding the fact that im a fan of the d16 I was expecting to get flamed once i let it be known.

I guess im just so used to moron's in the honda community that are brainwashed into believing that the only motors in the world are the b and k.

I love the d and how inexpensive and easy to work on they are and besides the d im also a fan of the H & F series engines as well. As they say no replacement for displacement... except of course boost :D

You'll realize soon that the turbo miata community is a bit different from the average group of idiots. For the most part people here are a bit older, and don't feel the need to compare dicks. Cheap is great as long as its effective and reliable.

I think for the longest time the d series was overlooked by the performance market of the honda world simply due to everyone and their mother drooling over the B. Then the K came out and its the new cool engine to swap in.

This leaves the d engines not wanted by anyone and cheap as hell. Built and with a big snail they start producing nasty power.

My only question is: if you had a built motor and messed up the block due to a machining error, why not just replace block and stick with the built motor?

Doesn't make sense to me to go back to a stock engine.

Not bailing just threw another motor in until i get the time and patience to do it all over again.

I just wanted to drive my car again after almost a year of it sitting in the driveway.

Is that a miata wheel? As long as you stay away from fart cans, body work, cut springs, neon, and all the other crap people think is cool these days, you're cool by us. I'll never hate on a clean, fast honda. I'll always hate on the fact that it's wrong wheel drive, but I'm not the one that has to drive it:fawk:

Haha, Trust me most honda owners are no where near my level of character. About the wheels, Yes the front 2 are miata enkei "daisy's" as ive always known them to be called. Ive never really been able to get the tires i need so i tend to spin alot ( big suprise! ) so i was in need of tire and a old friend came across a full set with decent tread for around 50 bucks, slapped em on and tore them up as well. Ill be finding some tires for the matching front wheels a.s.a.p but i kinda like the idea of a fresh coat and tires for em to use as spares or something better than street tires.

The car is mighty fun to drive and i got plenty of respect for rwd as both of my other vehicles are, My favorite is my 1975 camaro Lt/Z28 383 stroker (Twin gt40 equivalent in the final plan) and a very shaved 2002 gmc sonoma (s10) thats lowered and has shaved door handles, tailgate handle, 3rd brake light, taillights, well lets just call it shaved or ill be here all night.

Im rambling on again ill leave it at that for now. Pics when i get on my main desktop where there all stored.

curly 11-08-2009 11:30 PM

Daisy's, yes. Enkei, not as far as I know. From what I've heard anything over 200hp in FWD is "too much". I had 170 and was chirping tires from a stop all the time. Even my 160hp Lancer sucks in Oregon with all the rain and leaves we have, pretty much have to start from 2nd all the time.

Tw34k 11-08-2009 11:36 PM

The wheels say enkei on them i can throw up a pic, i was aware that it was pretty well known. Here in North Florida all we really have to deal with is rain and we get what id call extremely good conditions for traction. Ill even get some video up of the car along with some of full tilts as well were going to get some new footage soon.

My daises say the same. I always figured they were enkeis.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 11-09-2009 12:48 AM

I can vouch for this civic being a handful, lots of torque steer and no traction, haha.
But yah, well have to make a little vid with the turbo civic and the turbo miata bombing around jesusville
