Greetings everybody.

My name is Dan. In July I bought a 1990 one owner Miata with 82,000 miles on it. I've been daily driving it since then, to the tune of more than six thousand additional miles. It's a great car, and I've genuinely enjoyed it.

I'm leaving my job presently in order to go back to school full-time (I'm 29), and so my budget is going to go down, but my time will go up. I am a member of the Puget Sound Miata Club, but because of my weird work schedule I've yet to be able to attend any of their events. That's changing soon, so if any of you are also members, I'll see you there.

My intent at this time is to home-brew a turbo kit that consists of a small, fast spooling turbo pushing about 6psi of boost. I'd like to see about 150hp. I'm doing a lot of reading currently to get myself up to speed. I plan to start by experimenting with engine management (probably MS) on my stock engine setup while I put together parts for the turbo build.

Lots of good information here. I realize that I may want more boost and more power in the future, but this initial project will serve to educate me about the process, which I can apply to future builds.

Thanks all.
Dan

Most support on the forum is for the MS, so it's a great choice. 6psi on a small turbo won't be enough. The 1.6 engine is good for 230ish whp on stock internals so at least set your sights on 200.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks Sixshooter. I certainly won't complain about more power. What I surmised from my lurking is that at approx 150hp and 6psi on a GT2554R or equivalent, I can keep the stock clutch and not run an intercooler.

The plan is to run it around a while like that, really learn the basics and educate myself, and then move up to higher pressures, intercooler, new clutch, and bigger power.

It's going to be a fun ride. Lots of learning to do. I've ordered Maximum Boost by Corky Bell, which I expect to be a well of great information.

Thanks Braineack. I see one of your DIY Megasquirt units in my near future.
