Default NA8 in the 808

Aloha everyone, my name is Bronson and I live in Hawaii. I just picked up my first Miata last week from a close friend who's been building and tweaking these awesome machines since 2002. It's a bone stock white 95 with the OEM 1.8 motor. I'm really looking forward to tearing into this car and learning as much as I can about it. I haven't figured out what my plans are for it yet but I'm leaning towards a turbo'ed race/Street car, but only time will tell. I hope to learn as much as I can from everyone here and will try to share whatever knowledge I have as well.

Mahalo for reading,
Bronson.

P.S. I'll post a few pictures as soon as I have a free day to take some.

Aloha Bronson!

Welcome to the forum. I used to live in Mililani when I was younger. Hawaii would have a great climate for a Miata. Post some glamour shots near some natural beauty when you get a chance.

Glad to see some local Kanakas on here! The Miata scene in Hawaii right now is pretty depressing. It's all about being "super JDM/OEM+++/hella stanced" and no one seems interested in function anymore.

Oh and I had some free time today after work to snap a picture of the beater.

Looks clean.

I'm just a haole with a dad who was in the Army. The real local kids that were older than me never let me forget that I didn't belong, even though they were Samoan or Chinese themselves.

The way I see it, Haole isn't a skin color, It's a mindset. If you show respect and are humble, you're a Kanaka.

We're all in the same ohana.

I wish those other kids saw it that way. It was tough being a third grader and having fifth and sixth graders push you down and throw your book bag over a 6ft wall into somebody's back yard when walking home from school. They would say, "Haole crap go home." I know now they were repeating what they heard at home. Hate is a learned behavior.

I've had black people here who have had the audacity to tell me I didn't know what it was like to be discriminated against based on my skin color that I've had to set straight. Some people love their special victim status and don't think anyone else has ever seen adversity, lol.

I'm hapa haole and never ran into anything like that but I've seen and heard stories like yours. It sucks that ignorant people would ruin such a beautiful place.

Miata club of hawaii has great members. They autocross at the stadium on weekends. No posers there. I lived in kailua for a while. The SCCA autocross and rallycross(if they still have it) is about the only thing you can do and not get tickets.

HAHA stance, I agree with that. I was into that. Now functional is the way to go. I'm from Waipahu and drive the red 92 Na. Come out to the Miata meets! Every second Thursday's of the month. There are a wide variety of builds. From Naturally Aspirated, turbo NA's/NB's, Stance, Drift kids, Scca memebers to LS1 gear heads.

I would definitely love to check out the local Miata meets but I've already started stripping the car down in anticipation of a full rebuild.
