Default They told me to come !!

I usually post at MX5Nutz.com ... The home of the Mazda MX-5 and they told me to ask all my daft questions here

So I'm 45, a Chartered Manufacturing Engineer, with wife of 22 years, a son at York University, and a Daughter in 6th Form College.

We live near Liverpool, (not far from John Lennon Airport)

And my wife has a 1997 mk1 mx5 monza UK spec, which we got off her freind 3 years ago. Her friend bought a 1.8 mk3 2003 I think.

Anyway I want to build a forced induction 1.6 and take the output to about 180 bhp (double it basically)

Hence I'm here to learn EVERYTHING

welcome to the forums. you'll learn a lot of you can somehow ignore 2 out of every three posts.

there are some very good guides in the Beginners Luck section... like this:
https://www.miataturbo.net/useful-sa...ig-post-10821/

You should be able to get to your goal fairly easily on a 1.6 without much pain and agony. Just be aware that we deal in rear wheel horsepower (rwhp) and not brakehorsepower because not many of us have access to the expensive brake dynos required to measure output at the flywheel.

That means you're probably looking for 150-160 whp and that is very doable, even on a 1.6. In fact most here would scold you for aiming so low and suggest that the margin of safety is still very high and the cost of additional modifications trivial to reach up into the 200 rwhp range.

Perhaps another forum member can post the two word answer to all of life's questions?

I've never had much ambition. I like things to be safe and reliable, but if more is safe and reliable then so be it.

I'm a Freelance Engineer, which means I am constantly moving jobs, and am just about to start a 6 month contract with GE about 70 miles from home, so was looking for a room for rent 4 nights a week, which comes with a shed, and was going to spend my evenings more productively than previously.
