Hey guys,

SOO here's my story....

I'm Chris, 20 years old and have owned my Miata for 4 years now (my first and only car I have owned). I've had a lot of fun with it over the years but it is time for a change, the change that everyone that is on here has gone to: forced induction!

Last year I received a VERY generous donation from a great friend of the family who was moving and that was his project Miata: a turbo 90. I have decided to finally get to rebuilding this project car and make it my own. I can twist a wrench and fix just about anything on my own car, but I know little about turbo set-ups. I have started my research here and I am sure I will be posting frequently with questions (sorry in advance for any noobie questions). I just wanted to say hey to everyone and thanks in advance for the help!

Pictures will be up soon.
But a few quick details:
It came with a blown motor with a megasquirt
I have an EM USA turbo with exhaust manifold and blow off new in the box (got a deal that I couldn't refuse)
A different 1.6L is in the shop being machined and ready for a rebuild, should be ready next week

I am getting ready to make a few purchases on engine components this week.

Nothing on this project is really set in stone yet other than the fact that I am using a close to stock 1.6 motor with a megasquirt.

The end goal on this project is a daily driver that makes around 190hp

why have you decided to go with a turbocharger instead of a supercharger?

I already have several components of the system that I need, mainly being a new turbo with manifold (actually I have the new one as well as a few others that came with the car that may work better for this project). Also I know a few people in our local Miata club that have successfully built turbo cars that have a lot of knowledge and have offered to assist me in the build. I have nothing against superchargers, and the biggest reason for my choice of turbo over super is that I have more materials available to me related to turbo applications.

I seemed to have misplaced my camera that has the current build pictures on it. I apologize for not posting regularly but I don't get much opportunity to get on the computer these days. But anyway...since the last post I have made some progress:
Did some sandblasting on the intake manifold and few other pieces
Acquired '01 sport brake package
FM sways and momo wheel will come from my current car
godspeed radiator purchased
failed to mention that it has a coil-on-plug setup, harddog rollbar, Racing Beat braces, ACT clutch, and wideband
This week I plan on port matching the head then flow test it
I should get the block and other bits back from the machine shop any time now and engine reconstruction should commence shortly after that time!

and is this an aftermarket intake manifold? If not, why even bother flow testing it? Unless you work at a machine shop.

stock, and a friend of mine who works at a shop offered to give me a hand with porting it and then flow testing it after to make sure the flow rates on all 4 ports are the same on his fancy machine haha since I am in no rush it's worth the time in my opinion

Wow, ok, lucky you. It would cost me like $400 for flow test :( in this area.

So here are the pictures as promised!

This was a remote mount rear turbo car prior to my possession. (Dynoed at about 180 hp with that setup too!)

This is how the car was a few weeks ago, haven't gotten the chance to take new ones, been too caught up in actually working on it I guess!

But since these pictures were taken I have gotten rid of the wing, new hood, front bumper, rear bumper, finish panel. Motor was pulled and trunk lid was removed. Just got done sanding and painting the racing beat braces tonight too!

Needs a lot of work, but it has a lot of potential!

We are not a big fan of remote mount turbos on this site. If you search his name you should be able to find threads with all of our views on his setup.
