new guy from NM
hi, the name's Colin and obviously i'm new. i'm based in New Mexico, go to school at NMT in socorro. i've got a 99 miata i'm thinking about adding boost to. i have left over parts from a failed honda civic project so i'm going to use most of those for my new project.
goals for this project are 190 - 200 something hp, reliable, on a budget. basic list of current parts includes t3 60 trim turbo, tial 38mm wastegate, (8 psi spring) misc piping and oil lines, gauges, an intercooler which might be to big greddy RS BOV. with the MS it can vent to atmosphere i think. parts i know i'll need megasquirt, ms2 to avoid the CAS problem manifold, probably begi downpipe, i'll probably try and fab my own with stuff in the shop and old civic dp clutch radiator oil feed from block questionable... injectors? i have 1st gen dsm injectors, and access to 550 300zx injectors ( i have a feeling neither set will fit) wideband 02? fuel pump (have walbro 255 from civic) i'm currently searching around and learning as i go so i may find answers to my current questions and questions i don't know i have. :) |
Nice first post, it looks like you've done your homework better than just about any NOOB I've ever seen. WELL DONE!
Those injectors won't work. Check the "DIY FAQ" in the DIY FORUM for a list of PnP compatible injectors. You'll probably want some Rx7 550's. With that T3 and a '99, no reason to shoot for about 250whp at 15psi. 200whp will be easy at around 10psi... maybe less depending on your exhaust. |
Welcome to the forum. I just boosted my 99', and I can tell you, it's NICE! Looks like a pretty good list of stuff. As for the wideband, YES, you want one. I've been running an Innovate LC-1 for a year and it's worked fine. Just have to follow the directions when wiring it up and it's trouble free. And another "yes" to getting a 255 fuel pump. Stocker sucks on a 99'.

Let me know if there's something I can help with.
|
the whitesands area is gorgeous. I love NM.
|
arroyo seca much? I recommend NM152 through the Gila Forest to Silver city. 300+ turns over 20-miles or so...just don't fall off. It made the brakes smoke in my Rav4.
|
Since you're on a budget look into the JAW wideband. Cheap and has been working great for me. People have gotten it to work with MS too.
|
Welcome! +1 On the wbo2, and the stock pump will work fine unless it is in questionable condition.
Woot more people in NM, not long before we can have a NM turbo miata meet, all 4 of us could show. |

There's several turbo and supercharged miatas in Abq, and Los Lunas, few of them ever make it out to the road course or play around on the internets. |
I want to run from santa fe to angelfire in my miata. Driving that SUV through the mountains caused me great pain.
|
The enchanted circle is awesome, and the downhill side of the canyon to Angelfire has a really tight section that is fun. Quite a few canyons to chose from up here..
I'm planning on making it to the track as much as possible if everything works out this year. |
I fucking hate it when NOOBs start a thread, get a shit-ton of feedback, are clearly logging on, and don't respond to their own threads.

I didn't know there were that many other new mexico members on here. Id be so down for a NM meet.
|
sorry samnavy, i have been digging through old threads.
thanks for the warm welcome. its awesome to see some NM people. a meet would be fun, but my car wont' be boosted for quite a while, at the moment i'm just researching and picking parts. Hustler: i have been to ASR, once. it was so much fun on stock power i can't wait to be boosted! i'm planning on being there for at least the 2 day events this year. |
Welcome Wonk Unit!
I just found this thread. I'm in Las Cruces. I regularly race at ASR and I'd definitely be in for a NM meet. There's a local forum called crucesstreets.com that has all the info for events at ASR. |
thanks, i'm on cruses streets for that very reason, dont' post much though. the one ASR race i went to i saw your car, very nice! 949s look awesome in person!!
|
Thanks! :) Dang, if I'd known who you were, I would have given you a ride-along on the track. My best time at ASR is 1:19.8
|
i honeymooned in Santa fe.........damn that hyundai accent rental car sucked.
|
I may need to run-off to Santa Fe for a week with this trashy 22-year old I just put in my stable, lol.

ok, so research is going slow, the more i read the more confused i get. i'm going to start buying parts soon, but have a few questions.
injectors: in the diy faq, it says the 7mgte supra injectors are high ohm, direct fit without resistor box...then right below that it says they're low ohm...which one is it? when it says plug and play replacement does that mean just the injectors are needed, the mazda clips fit? oh, and FD Rx7 injectors aren't on the list for PnP, would they work or no...ironic i only have injectors that don't fit. Megasquirt...i know i should search for this, but i can't seem to find an answer. who builds a pnp for the NB? braineack? (his FS thread only says NAs and i didnt' see an answer the the guy who asked about NBs) DIYautotune? i'm sure i need a certain # of posts to actually pm braineack, but i tried anyway. while i'm at it... EGT sensor. MS doesn't need it to run the car, its just nice for additional fine tuning and monitoring, correct? (probably not but i tried) flame suit on, have at it. |
Read the list again. There are two different injectors for the supra 7MGE
Complete list of Miata plug and play replacement injectors (“F” connector): HTML Code:
Year Make/Model Engine Size/Color Part # Direct fit LOW OHM injectors (“E” connector): 89-92 Toyota Supra (7MGE) NA - (295cc – Yellow Top) - #23250-70040 88-91 Toyota Collora GT-S Turbo (4AGZE) – (365cc – Red-Orange Top) 92-95 Toyota Collora GT-S TURBO (4AGZE) – (365cc – Red-Orange Top) 86-92 Toyota Supra (7MGTE) TURBO – (430cc – Black Top) Toyota MR2 (3SGTE) TURBO – (430cc – Black Top) High Ohm vs. Low Ohm tabs So yes, the lime green top supras are plug and play. The yellow fit but are low OHM. Several RX7 injectors fit. They are listed. Becareful with the Sube injectors, I'm not sure if anyone has successfully used them. You should PM Brain, you'll likely need to wire it parallel. MS doesn't need an EGT sensor. |

EDIT: wow...ok i see it now, the 7mge turbo is 89-92, the 7mgte is 86-92. i didn't know they had different turbo engines. |
Good spot. Maby we need a supra expert to weigh in.

I'm planning on making it to the track as much as possible if everything works out this year. It would be fun if they wern't there. Funny thing, we were heading to Veil, and a sheriff pulling a rescue station slid sidways blocking the whole highway, hit the rail, and wound up facing the wronge direction. He is lucky to be alive. Yea I bet ya, he needed new shorts right along with me and my girl. They also have the biggest RABBITS! I have ever seen. I would so barbeque one up. I think they missed the turn near Al-buuur-quirk---yyy. LoL |
