Hey everyone my name is jared 23 yr old with a bone stock 1.6 miata 90

i dont know anything about supers or turbos except their main purpose

but i am a do it yourselfer who reads and ask and what not to make sure i do it right (why i am here)

i beleive i found a good deal on a sc and wanted to see what you guys thought

Is is an incomplete eaton kit and asking price is only $175

i received this email with these pics

"It came off of a 1.6. I found a blower case with factory warrenty for a good price, and am selling this case.

It will need some of the "supporting parts". Most, if not all can proably be purcahsed form guys that have "upgraded" to higher performance pieces.
Some of the parts you will need;

outlet manifold
crossover tube
dummie throttle body
block off plate
misc. hose connectors and clamps"

so what do ya guys think?

how much do ya think the rest of the parts will cost me?

should i snag this now while i can or pass cuz other parts woult be expensive?

thanks
jared

I like your name :).

Screw the eaton (no pun intended). Get a turbo. They are much more easily versatle then supers and for cost to power ratio, you cant beat it.

Well Jared, in my educated opinion, absolutely not. If the items in the picture are all that you will recieve with your purchase, then you will need alot more to make it a complete running kit.

Items such as: Blower mount for your year, crossover, some sort of fuel management(can be more expensive than a MS unit), throttle bracket that goes with the throttle adaptor for the back of the blower(Pain in the ass btw), and worse than sourcing all these is going to be finding/collecting all the little pieces of hardware that make it all happen. There are more items to add to that list, trust me.

All of this stuff put together gives you a miata that is: Still slow as piss, worse on gas mileage, all ways making some sort of strange noise that makes you think your car is falling apart, HORRIBLE idle(A/C makes it spaz and do a dance), high intake temps, requires alot of money and tuning(standalone only) to make decent numbers.

Ask me how I know;)

Begi S-kit is so worth the money if you're new to the boost game.

Please do not get that supercharger. You might have trouble finding parts from "people who have upgraded" because it's a small crowd to begin with. I would highly suggest getting a full turbo kit.

Oh and welcome to the boards. :)

You might as well score an m90 off ebay for that price and fab it yourself. Atleast then you would have decent power..... if you just have to have a supercharger.

Which on a 1.6 I highly suggest avoiding.

I'm one of those supercharged guys that these turbo boys love to hate. What do you want to do with the car? Daily drive, Track, AutoX other? If its the first two then I agree with these guys, go turbo. If you want to go supercharger and you buy that setup you will need to be either real good with sourcing the rest or fabricating parts. The fuel management they talk about you will need with either turbo or super.
Do your research, don't just jump on this for the price.

I have to strongly disagree with this. I am much faster at the autocross with my turbo at 6psi then I ever was with my m45.

It's a beautiful thing to drive to a event at 12psi, race at 6psi and leave on the highway with 12psi again.

Not gonna argue with your personal experience. Driving with boost of any kind at AutoX is a wonderful thing.
