Default New Orleans here

Name is Mike. Picking up my first Miata this weekend.
1990 model.

My original plan for this car was to put in a LS1.
The more I think about it; if I can get 300whp out
of a 1.6 turbo maybe I will stick with the 4cyl.

Couple quick newb questions.
How much power will the 1.6 drivetrain handle?
How do I tell if it haas a LSD?

Welcome aboard Mike. You have a lot of reading to do.

You can get 300whp out of a 1.6 turbo but your drivetrain won't handle it for too long.

No LSDs before 94 or 95 that I know.

Congrats on the Saints win!

WHO DAT!

Viscous LSD was an option 90-93. Not worth looking for, it is still a 6" carrier and very weak.

Your stock diff is probably already contemplating suicide. You can get a Torsen from a 1.8L though and you should be good.

Someone can probably chime in on how to tell if you already have a 1.8L diff though, might be worth checking in case the previous owner replaced it already.

Make sure you read the FAQs as I'm sure a lot of your future questions will be answered in there.. and even some things you probably didn't even think to ask.

I'll make it easy: Go HERE

#13 will give you some of your drivetrain answers.
