Default Hi

Hey I am new to the miata world

I have a 1992 miata with the 1.6 of course

I want to do a 1.8l swap and then build and boost it

I have a 48mm turbo, wastegate, blow off valve, and intercooler

To fully build the motor what else will I need?

Ps: I would like to be able to get around 350hp for around 5000$ preferably under not over

You don't need anything OP.

Just strap that turbo on and run ALLOFIT, and stay out of the eggplant zone.

Bro do you even know who you are talking to? This guy is important. His questions must be answered in a timely manner because we are all here to serve him.

On a serious note, and before this gets closed, OP: All your answers are on this forum. Humble yourself and read a bit. If you are still really confused, read some more. Then if you STILL have questions make a build thread and ask in there. But make sure to trade for those answers with pictures of cats, your gf, or your car (in order of what we want most).

1) eggplant
2) search noob
3) allofit

There really isn't much else to be honest.

dakota24, I'm gonna give you an honest answer here, because you happened to catch me in sort of a transitional period.

The differential (specifically the Ring & Pinion) in your 1.6 car will probably shatter before you get to 200 HP. This is a known weak-spot in these cars. You can swap over the entire assembly of differential, carrier, propshaft and axles from a '94-'05 car, and that will be good for probably 300 HP so long as you're not doing clutch-drops on slick tires.

The engine itself is good for about 250 HP on stock internals, and that goes for both the 1.6 and 1.8. The connecting rods are the weak point- a set of forged H-beam rods is pretty much a necessity if you plan to play above 250 HP. (This isn't a hard-and-fast rule, just a general estimate).

Same goes for the 5 speed transmission. These also like to blow up somewhere in the high 200's. The NB 6 speed (and, allegedly, the 6 speed from the MSM in particular) is rather stronger, and will probably survive to 300 HP if you're kind to it.

So, those are the basics, and about half your budget gone already. If you count doing a 1.8 engine swap, more like 2/3 of your budget.

This said, 350 HP in a car that weighs 2,100 lbs is a LOT of power. Like "Holy ******* ****, why I am spinning the tires in 4th gear?" Apart from purpose-built track cars, putting 350 HP into a Miata is kind of like having a large enough nuclear arsenal to destroy all life on earth five times over. It sounds cool, and it good for making your enemies nervous, but serves little useful purpose.

A 200-225 HP Miata is startlingly quick, and that sort of power is probably attainable at your budget, assuming you do 100% of the labor yourself and know how to tune an ECU by yourself.

I came to the realization that my expectations were rediculous so I am going for more like 200-250hp I am going to buy a 1.8 and 1.8 rear end forged rods and pistons head studs and main studs then my turbo set up i am hoping i can get it machined and assembled fairly cheap considiring after everything I buy I will only have around 600 -700 left

If you're gonna talk mad **** about how everyone here drives slow miatas with small turbos, this is the turbo you are required to run.

See this thread.
