New to the Miata, Not to Mazda!

Hey guys. My name is Kris. I'm from Orange County, NY but just moved to Lake Mary, FL (Orlando Area) less than a year ago. I just picked up a 1990 Miata a couple weeks ago. It's my first Miata but not my first Mazda. I had a 2004 Mazda 6i with a few mods. Here's the link to my build thread for that on 6crew I blew the motor a few months back and sold all the aftermarket parts. I have been waiting to buy a new motor to drop in it and sell it.

So I bought the Miata in the mean time to be my daily until I can sell the 6. Then I plan on modding the Miata with the money I get from the sale. I'd like to get a 1.8 motor for it and put together a turbo setup. I'm sure my mind will change reading this forum by the time the money comes, but for now that's the plan. Short term I'm planning on doing Tein springs and a better wheel setup. Like to do 15x8 at the least, something with +20 or +15 offset so it looks super clean and performs well. I'd obviously roll the fenders for the functionality of it.

I'm very involved in the Mazda community already and actively go to meets throughout the area with plenty of Miata guys.

It's a 1990 Miata with 106,000 miles. 5 Speed manual trans. Only one previous owner. Clean inside and out with the exception of the cracked back window (plastic) because the idiot at the dealership didn't know how to properly lower the top and cracked it in half...

Here's some pictures after I washed and waxed her. Still need to do some claybar and buffing work, but for now at least she looks somewhat clean...

Welcome to the site, car looks super clean.

You'll quickly learn we're a very function oriented website, you may get some negative feedback on the hella flush yo +0 offset wheels. Goodwinracing has some great looking, light, really cheap 15x8's that are in the 20-30 offset range that works really well with our cars if you want to take a look at them.

Tein springs + 0 offset wheels is super FAIL. In no way shape or form is it even remotely "clean". I hope you don't ruin this car.

Thanks for the input, i have a friend with a Miata and +12 offset BBS replica wheels. Looks super nice. I'm not really into the whole "hella flush" deal. Looks like crap IMO. Function>Form any day. I plan on autocrossing the car so I definitely need something that will perform well.

He had mentioned that the +0 offset looks really nice on these cars. I've never seen it in person though so I don't really have anything to go off of.

Taking a look around though a +20 offset looks super clean and would probably perform better. I'll be sure to take a look at Goodwinracing.

First of all welcome! I have a 90 as well but mine didn't come in as good of condition. I bought mine in 2007 though for $1400. I'm merely mentioning this as a precautionary for you. If you plan on turbo you at minimum will need a new rear end. If you see yourself seriously swapping a 1.8 than I strongly advice just keeping your eye out for a 94+ and buying it low and selling yours high. I've seen decent shaped 94's go for $2400ish. You would then have a good rear end and the motor of choice. If you're lucky it may even have an lsd. 94's also have bigger brakes and some other small differences.

My car was so cheap and not my daily so I had no problem buying parts and letting it sit in the garage, wrenching on it in my free time. I do recommend saving yourself time and money if you think you're going to go all out. Either way enjoy!
