hey whats up. I just bought a 1996 miata and am trying to make a fast streeet car.

ok I just bought a miata after selling my 2003 yamaha r6 it seemed more practical since i live in az and drive to school everyday. It's fuckin hot here. but uuhhh...I am new to turbos and performance parts for cars and wanted to make this car a fast street car. I'm looking to add a turbo but i don't know where to start. i wanna add atleast 60 hp to my car. what do you guys suggest. also i don't have alot of money

Are you planning to do some autocross/track days, or is it purely a street car?

I live in east mesa, but yeah purely a street car I won't get into track now maybe later.

Without spending an enormous amount of money (or some serious ingenuity on your part), it will never be as fast as your bike. It is doable though, but keep in mind that people that are "new to performance cars" don't generally jump off the deep end. It takes time and experience to put something worthwhile together.

Not a bad goal, and easily attainable with a small t25 centric setup.

Don't take this the wrong way, because you seem like a nice guy and I'm not trying to textually rape you via the interweb (which is generally the treatment we give out to clueless new guys around here, however, as I said, you don't come off as a dickhole...so +1 to you! ;) )

Generally speaking "I don't have a lot of money" translates directly to: "My car is going to be a flaming pile of shit". While there are exceptions to every rule, combining that statement with "I have very little experience" inevitably leads to utter disappointment and savage abuse here at MT.net when you make stupid mistakes.

My advice: Sit down, and SERIOUSLY figure out how much cash you have to spend. You can definitely do things on the cheap, but "cheap" is subjective. If you set aside a healthy ~$3500 dollars give or take, you could have a very nice, reliable street setup with all the fixins. Take a look at the bell engineering Shanghai kits. Couple a basic kit with a cheap exhaust, a new clutch, a megasquirt, some injectors, and an ebay IC setup, and you would have a decent setup with room to grow in the future.

Just remember the old saying: Cheap | Fast | Reliable - Pick two.

OR, you could be a retard and try to buy everything from ebay, and end up with a car that is a worthless turd. Your choice.

First Welcome. I'm in central phx so its good to see new AZ people on here. Check out clubroadster, every once and a while we have meets so it would be nice to see new faces show up.


Jeff speaks the truth as well. I set my car up for a little bit less than that the neighborhood of 2500 but i had some parts originally and i have a great hookup/sponsor. A lot of times you can get used stuff on the forum for a decent price/in good shape as long as you don't mind taking your time collecting parts, that's how I did it.

Come out to one of the meets and you can take a look at the car and chat with everyone.

lol. I guess what I'm tyring to say is i don't wanna make it a full bred track car with the biggest turbo you can get for it. I just want a add some horsepower so I can climb a hill without hesitation or pass someone easily when I need to. Of course I don't want cheap parts I want to get quality parts. I was thinking of getting a gates racing timing belt and a ram air intake by Jackson racing, also with that performance plug wires by jackson and the DIYPNP MS-II to start off. I think those are good products. what do you think?
