New MSM owner

Found my way to these forums in the attempt to decide which ECU to put on my '04 MSM (Graphite). I had a '91 Miata several years ago but ended up selling it because it was starting to need a lot of work and I didn't have time for it. Other prior cars have been 2 Buick Turbo Regals, a 2000 Subaru Impeza (unfortunately before they got the turbo but prior to them becoming ugly) and my latest performance car prior to the MSM was a 2001.5 AUDI S4 sedan which I still have but it needs new turbos.

The MSM was stock several months ago when I bought it but I have added the Flying Miata Little Enchilada Kit, Fying Miata AFCO shocks and a set of Hoosier SM7's on Konig Dial-Ins. The car handles extremely well on the track but I had to keep the boost low due to the 100 degree ambient temps. It still turned some impressive times but I would like a bigger spread of power, hence the 'need' for the aftermarket ECU. Currently the car feels dead below 4800 and limits at 6500 and I'm not so sure I want to shift that much in a car.

I guess I will add here that I"ve road raced motorcycles before with my favorite being a '94 Yamaha TZ125. On the smallest/simplest track we raced on, I shifted 36 times per lap which really added up in a 30 minute race with laps right at 1 minute.

Ok, that was a bit wordy....I will try to do better in future posts. :-)

Welcome to the forums!

Depending on your goals, is this a track whore MSM, or your DD that you wanna have some extra fun in ?

Majority here will point you in the direction of a Megasquirt ecu. They just actually released a new PnP (Plug n Play) model based of a MS3Pro ecu board. Loads of features!

An ECU on a stock miata has big gains, MSM shouldnt be much different. I'm currently on the Xede piggy back (came with BEGi kit). It's great for OBDII yearly inspections, bad becuase you're limited in terms of power. The megasquirt being full stand alone, direct connection to your ecu plug, you can just swap in the stock ecu (but that depends if you have injectors the stock ecu cant control... cause then in comes stock injectors as well if you need to ever 'go back to stock')

Do you have a cat?

Thanks, I forgot to mention that after reading the threads I did decide to go with the MegasquirtPNP and ordered it along with a wideband and boost controller last night.

The car is a DD that will see the track 6-10 days a year. My first track experience in it was at night which was a lot of fun and then two full days the following week. The next outing will be Oct 4th so I may have time to get the Megsquirt in and tuned for it.

Nice. A standalone ECU really wakes up the MSM, just look at Lazarus.

Awesome! Welcome to the club! The ms2e was the best mod I've done to my msm by far!
