Default Another noob introduction and a question

Hello all,

My name is Aidan, I'm from Oregon and am starting to do some research for a turbo build. A few months ago I bought a Red 1990 and have since done some basic upgrades on it. Roll bar, bilsteins with coilover sleeves, torsen lsd, etc. but am starting to put together a turbo build. The plan is to get together parts throughout the year (its my senior year at college) and to put it all together next summer. I got a turbo from a buddy for a good deal, its a td04 16t from a Volvo and am planning on doing a Megasquirt diy build. Here's where my question comes in. I have spent a bunch of time researching Megasquirt, the different versions, what I need etc. I am a electrical engineering student so I am fairly competent at soldering, wiring, etc so at first I was looking at the diypnp. But the I started to realize I could do more with say a MS3x. But this is where I am confused. Is the only difference between the diypnp and say the unassembled MS3x board the fact that the diypnp comes with a connector and wiring instructions. Can I do the same thing by following something like this: 90-97 MS3 | Frank's Westfield MX5 90-97 MS3 |

Thanks for reading and glad to finally stop lurking.

Aidan

It's a little confusing, but here is a good thread to read. Curly breaks it down pretty well in post #9. https://www.miataturbo.net/megasquir...squirts-80002/

Awesome link!! That's what I needed. That will help with my research a lot. Also there is a mention of a MSPNP-Pro a few posts down which hopefully will be ready when I am. I plan on getting the Megasquirt in december, get everything running through the winter and spring N/A and then going turbo in the summer.

Are planning on boosting your 1.6 or doing a swap(you should)? That might factor pretty heavily in your decision making. In either case, consider something from Reverant: https://www.miataturbo.net/ms-labs-m...ms-labs-69930/

I plan on turboing the 1.6 first, a 1.8 will probably come down the line but its not at the top of my list. And wow those are some nice units. Any idea on the price? The reason I'm going with the diy is how inexpensive it is out of pocket.

I have plug and play MS3 Pro Module boards for sale if you're interested. You only need to buy the MS3 Pro Module (not the entire ecu) and plug it into my board;
Info in my signature.

I was looking more at what you did here: 90-97 MS3 | Frank's Westfield MX5 90-97 MS3 |
If I understand correctly its more in the 500$ range instead of $900 unless I'm missing something.

Thanks Brain!

I've been lurking for quite some time, but finally bought a turbo and have committed to the project so i figured I might as well post up an introduction. Right now I'm really stuck on the MS3 vs DIYPNP debate. I'm leaning towards DIYPNP because of the clear instructions, where MS3 I am lost for where to even start. But then I found Frank's post here: 90-97 MS3 | Frank's Westfield MX5 90-97 MS3 | and that made me reconsider the MS3. It seems to come out to a similar price as the DIYPNP. Any comments other than the sequential fuel is king i see everywhere? Can't sequential fuel be run with the DIYPNP too?
