New Orleans Transplant, With Plenty of Problems

Hey guys. My names Steven, and I've been lurking for about 9 months now, and finally decided to make my intro thread. I bought this beauty, a 2000 Emerald Green Mica with about 94k on the clock from a lady who said it had a leaky head gasket.

She had had "work" done on it:fawk:, and had cruise control and an alarm installed.:bowrofl: Alarm seen here:

Yay, vamp clips!

I did a rods-only build after reading 18psi's build thread, and discovered the cause of the low compression was a gunked up piston ring. If you're good, there's a youtube video of me doing a timelapse of the build, and my many mistakes.

I recently moved to St. Louis for school, and dragged the car along with me.
I went and bought myself a DIYPNP and had a blast assembling it. /s
I bought the sequential kit from DIY, and bought and assembled the alternator circuit with parts from Mouser, and that diagram the Braineack likes to hide.

My car is a "Cali-Spec" model, with that goofy pre-cat in the manifold, so I swapped that for the federal spec manifold and threw an AEM UEGO in the stock O2 bung. I swapped the IAT for the GM sensor, and cranked it up. It took a few troubleshooting days to finally get it to idle, but when I did, I discovered that when the coolant reaches about 175 degrees, the alternator output stops, and all the sensors go crazy. :vash:

I feel like there would be a short in the system from my messing around down there and the previous owner's handiwork, but how would I go about finding this? Anybody have any ideas?

Well, that enough about me. How are you?

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you are going to do just fine here.

You should post your questions in the Megasquirt section so the helpful people can find them.

Tell us about your schooling. What are you studying and where?

I figured it out! I wired the radiator fan like a moron, and it was shorting the system when the fan was programmed to come on. Now I need to figure out tuning!

I'm in a Millwright program at Ranken Tech in St. Louis right now. I was doing Mechanical Engineering elsewhere, but I just didn't see a future for myself in it. Thanks for the welcome!
