New from UK

Hi everybody, have just joined looking for turbo info.Looks like I am in the right neighbourhood.
After years of hot rodding I fairly recently bought a 2001 1.8 sport MK2.5 mx5(Henceforth called Miata.)
What a huge amount of fun this little beast is reminding me very much of the Lotus Elan I ran years ago, except it is a hell of a lot more reliable.
After years of rodding first thoughts were Chevy LS3/Tremec/Getrag but I worried about the weight.I love this thing because it is so light and chuckable which is how come I am here.
I choose my Miata particularly since it is 6 speed(stronger) and has the Torsen LSD rear end,so it seems pretty right for turbocharging.
Having already discovered Sturovo and his incredible manifolds etc for the TD04 Subaru turbo,I have decided to go down this route.
My plan is:
1. Get Megasquirt and wideband, fit and get running nicely.
More research.
2.Fit larger injectors and get running nicely.
More research. ie External or internel wastegate?
2.5 or 3 inch exhaust, although I think I shall go 3 inch to allow for future upgrades.
3.Pull the motor for clutch upgrade, replace front and rear seals whilst motor is out and drill oilpan for oil return.
4.Fit intercooler, turbo, exhaust etc.Get final tuning done on dyno.
5. Enjoy

I have already gone through the whole braking system and am looking at suspension upgrades.I do not want to slam it because the roads over here are full of pothole and speed bumps and I do not wnt to ruin the ride.So I need to do more research here although Tein stuff seems to be worth looking at.
Seems ike a good plan but I bet it doesn't go quite as smoothly as it seems.
Anyway off now because I have lots more reading to do on the forum, there are lots more brains to pick
Cheers
Phil

Welcome Phil!

I suggest you do the exhaust with the turbo install, because 3" is going to be crazy loud if you haven't yet fitted the turbo.

Hi Tim,yes that is how I shall do it.I intend to build the exhaust ready for it to be fitted when the Turbo goes on.
I intend to finish it with a couple of large flowmaster mufflers and twin pipes.
May add a resonator as well if it is still too loud since I do not like loud exhausts and prefer stealth.

Welcome to the forum. It looks like you have the plan correctly ordered for moving forward.

Check out the Better Bilstein thread (or whatever it is called) for DIY coilovers that work well on a budget.

Put your location in your profile so it shows under your screen name when you post. This helps when location specific differences show up between cars. And there are likely some members here that are near you and may be helpful.
