Default Palmtree's Introduction

Hey guys, been creeping on MT.net for a little while now trying to learn what I can. Went ahead and read maximum boost. Still have tons to learn, but I am beginning to gather parts to boost my '04 and figured I should introduce myself. So here it goes...

I bought a bone stock black on tan 2004 LS (5 speed, torsen) with 78xxx miles on it for a great deal almost a year ago. It is my second miata.

Mods I have done so far:
- 15x8 6ULs (autocross/track wheels) wrapped in what ever takeoffs I can get from the local track
- 15x8 +0 522 XXRs as my daily wheels with 195/50 400 treadwear all-seasons
- Megan racing EZ street coilovers 8k/6k
- Hard top from a 92-97
- 2.5" Magnaflow cat-back
- Custom shorty antenna

Waiting to be installed:
- FM frame rails
- Energy suspension control arm bushings
- UHMW plastic skids

Car as of today:

I figure my car is well enough sorted now to go ahead and pull together a turbo kit. Honestly, my goal is to put together a reliable kit on a tight budget (since I am a college student) without skimping on the important stuff. I am somewhat mechanically inclined and have the tools/resources to build what I need. My current plan is to go with a sturdy, cast manifold, internally gated t28 turbo, find a solid downpipe or attempt to fab one, ebay intercooler, figure something out for piping, make my oil/coolant lines, find a decent BOV, probably go with some innovate gagues(oil pressure, boost, WB), and talk to reverant about a megasquirt.

My goal is to be around 200 whp which I believe to be achievable/realistic.

This is definitely nothing that hasn't already been done, but I know this is the best community to be involved in to help me reach my goal.

Also, I'm a pretty indecisive person and since I haven't bought any parts yet, this is super tentative. lol

Thank you for the intellingent and refreshing noob post. My god I thought all the good ones were either already here or killed off by the insanely stupid hoards.

Welcome to the site. The plan you've got is absolutely solid and will work well for the 200whp you're shooting for.

Don't forget to add a clutch and some injectors in there for good measure.

Thanks for the warm welcome Rick and Jeff (Nice name)!

Yeah clutch and injectors for sure. I was thinking I could find some RX-7 injectors and grab an FM clutch.

Despite being on campus every other day I hardly do anything in Aggieland. Family life and work keep me super busy on top of studies.

Was friends with a guy that almost got me out there (used to be a forum member).

If I get the Miata back together sometime in the next 6 months I might try to get out there in the spring.

The FM clutch is a solid option. I'd go with the FM level 1 happy meal kit. Gets you the clutch, pressure plate, and lightweight flywheel. It's definitely not cheap, but it's worth it!
