newb with a couple bucks
I just sold my vw gti and bought a 1990 miata with 94k miles on it i have some money leftover from selling my old car and want to know how i should go about spending it. I want to drift have never drifted so i dont need crazy power but i want to be able to get sideways and hold it.

you bought the wrong car to drift. sell it an buy a car that wasn't designed to handle on rails with such a short wheelbase and only 75hp.

i have seen a lot of people turn miatas in to drift cars i wanna know what it takes

Well, you picked the wrong place to ask that question. Good luck though! |
For a gross drift missile that doesn't work worth a damn, it takes approximately one dozen yolos.
For one that maybe might work almost as good as a stock car that makes a better drift car for the same cost of entry, buckets of dollars. |

they only drift a miata because it's a cheap 5-sp with rwd. they have no friends and everyone hates them. so there's that too. |
alright so i guess drifting isnt going to work but before i can worry about making power i need a few parts i'm looking for a shifter rebuilt kit (car came with no shifter insulation can see the ground under my shifter), i need a roll bar and a hard top for safety i wanna get the parts used but dont know where to look or how to know if i can trust the seller any recommendations?

This forum is very track/race oriented and i cant thing of very many if any drift builds on here. clubroadster.net might be a better forum or sell the miata for a 240 like every other kid that wants to ruin a commuter car
|
Craigslist for roll bar and hardtop. Protect your bootyhole.
Shifter rebuild kit, Moss Miata or 5xRacing have the best prices on full kits last i looked. Expect to spend around $100. If that is too much money, you could probably get away with just getting the upper and lower boots for.... nearly as much money. If that's too much money, try a different car. |
The Miata is a terrible choice for a drift car because of its short wheel base and low polar moment of inertia. Conversely, it is what makes the Miata an excellent track car. The short wheel base and low polar moment of inertia make it extraordinarily difficult to carry a drift angle in a Miata. Longer wheelbase cars such as the RX-7 or the 240 actually do significantly better with much less effort. This is why drifters that actually have sponsorships never use Miatas. It is also why broke-ass high school dropouts that want to show off break them so often. They have no concept of the physics involved in drifting.

you should just go back to vw's
